From what I've read about the 2000-02 wiring harnesses, you might be better off swapping out the wiring to a 96 harness??
It seems a lot of people have troubles with those years..

Ok thanks guys ya all this wiring stuff is confusing and I just don't want to but new parts and not be the right year. How do ik if it really is a 96 motor?

Well theres a number on the case somewhere?? I can't remember where cause I ditched my 350.. lol
It should look something like this 3DG-082499. (I googled that BTW)

But if you get that number, and google it. You should get an idea of the year..

Ok thanks and ya ha wht all types of motors fit or are close to fitting with minor fabrication?

87 & 88 are same, 89 is by itself , 90 threw 95 are same , 96 threw 01 are interchangable and 02 threw 04 are same

I dunno if there is such a thing as minor fab work.. lol

It took me a couple of days to get my 490 mounted, but it's taken me the last 5 months to get it all put together..
It's all pretty simple though. If you want to do a motor swap, just do like I did. Start cut'n, and welding.
It'll run eventually. lmao

What I would do if I were you is this... get yourself a Clymer repair manual. It has a description of how to decipher the frame and engine numbers, if I remember correctly. It also has ALL the wiring harness diagrams in the back of the book. This is going to help you in more than one way. First, you should be able to figure out what year the engine, harness, and cdi are, just from looking at the color coding in the diagrams. The wiring coming out of the engine, that plugs into the harness, has it's own color coding depending on the year (i.e. X number of colors for one year(s), different color for another year(s). Same goes for the harness and the cdi if my thinking is correct. 2nd, it will also allow you to hopefully splice it all together correctly, and make it work. But, there are no garuantees that will work, only because of the differences in wiring and stator/flywheels through the years. You may be best to determine what year engine it is, and outfit the rest of the wiring to match. Or, determine what year the harness/cdi are, and outfit the engine to match.

Ok thank u where is the cheapest place to get the harness and wht ever else I need cuz my budget is tight right now?

I forget man. My manual is at the shop. Try a google search, or wait for someone here to answer.

can you read the 10th digit in the vin# on frame thats all we need to determine the year
