What I would do if I were you is this... get yourself a Clymer repair manual. It has a description of how to decipher the frame and engine numbers, if I remember correctly. It also has ALL the wiring harness diagrams in the back of the book. This is going to help you in more than one way. First, you should be able to figure out what year the engine, harness, and cdi are, just from looking at the color coding in the diagrams. The wiring coming out of the engine, that plugs into the harness, has it's own color coding depending on the year (i.e. X number of colors for one year(s), different color for another year(s). Same goes for the harness and the cdi if my thinking is correct. 2nd, it will also allow you to hopefully splice it all together correctly, and make it work. But, there are no garuantees that will work, only because of the differences in wiring and stator/flywheels through the years. You may be best to determine what year engine it is, and outfit the rest of the wiring to match. Or, determine what year the harness/cdi are, and outfit the engine to match.
