Hello everyone I just bought a 1988 yamaha warrior and I have some questions.
The warrior has no exhaust baffles. The owner before me hallowed it out.
It also has a open air box with no filter.

The quad will start great idol and rev, but when I put it into gear, the quad with move but if I punch it there will be no power. Just bogs down. Could this be because of the hollowed muffler and open air box with no filter?

I also checked timing. The timing Isn't bad at all but it's about a chain link maybe 2 off. Should I re time it?

Thanks everyone! -Chris

If the timing is off by more than half a tooth, then yes, re-time it. While you are there, check to see if the timing chain is stretched. I bet it is, so you will want to replace it if it is indeed stretched. Also, get an air filter for that thing asap. Riding without one will cause engine damage, especially if you ride in dusty or wet conditions. As for the bog, that is most likely a jetting issue. Check and see what color your plug is. Depending on if the previous owner jetted it or not, you will either be lean or rich. (I'm betting lean...) If it is lean or rich, pull the carb off and give it a good clean and replace the jets with appropriate sizes.

With an air filter in(and still no lid), a 45 pilot jet, 152.5 or 155 main jet, and possibly moving the needle clip down one position, should get you very close to where you need to be.
