Having problems with the carb on my 89. Has a wicked flat spot. Tried moving needle, has a 150 main with 42.5 pilot. Can get a carb off of a 01. Not sure if they are the same, or if it makes any difference. Didn't even look at it, but figured i would ask here first

i know the cable is different.. not sure about what else.. have heard that its hard to find parts for 87-89 carbs.. if you can get it cheap. buy a carb rebuild kit, complete jet kit and slap it together

The carb is pretty much the same. Only difference is the cable setup, and the older ones use a different needle than the newer ones. And technically the older ones have 2 vent lines out the top and the new ones have only one, not that it makes a difference.

yea pretty much the same, you just have to get a cable with it, my 1991 had two cables and i upgraded to a 2001 and i got the cable with the carb to and it was a direct swap. but i had a twist throttle too that i had to modify, but if you have a thumb, it should be a direct swap with the new cable.
