Well, I'm about to start my 1st customer project! I'm very excited about it! I've been an Auto mechanic proffessionally since the early 2000's & I've been dying to start my own quad/motorcycle side business. I really hope this turns out well so I can build my reputation in this community! Just wanted to share!

:tup:Well good for u go for it man i waz a head mic at a shop for 3 years i like doing this stuff too good luck!!!

Well, not much luck with the old bike today. Seemed like I started out the day with ignition & lost it at the end. I started my initial checks on the intake boot & reeds & they were good. The boot looks a lil rough on the outside but is solid inside.

Anyway, this thing popped through the exhaust a couple times & acted like it wanted to start, we were draggin it with my cousins' Blaster, lol! It acted much like his blaster did when the woodruff key sheared but I checked the flywheel & it's good. I believe it has a stator issue, would anyone know where I could find the resistance spec so I can ohm it?

cant help there but do you have a spark tester? that way you can know for sure you have spark sounds like a fouled plug to me but you could prolly call rm tomorrow and they could tell you the specs

Compression, honey, it kicked back & damn near broke my ankle, lol! It's got compession for sure. It did foul a plug but we had a couple good ones since we have 2 smokers around. I ordered a flywheel puller for it a few minutes ago, it fits Blasty too so I'm good on that, no loss there.

I may call RM, get some specs & a price.

It's crazy how lil info that's out there for this thing, I did send RM a email asking for some specs to check it by & some prices & part numbers for replacement parts. I don't quite understand why this thing is so nasty to start, crazy. It's been sitting for 2 years but the carb is clean & fresh fuel.

have you worked much with 2 strokes?are you 1005 sure the reeds are good? and the 2 stroke air fuel mix screw must be spotless for it to run right

Yeah man, reeds were the 1st thing I checked but I'm tempted to check em again. I'm also thinking about going over the carb with a fine tooth comb one more time man. It's got a 38mm Mikuni round slide on it & the thing over all is clean as a pin but it never hurts to try again & be sure.

It's not the reeds. Bike will run without reeds. Some bikes back in the day didn't even have reeds.

Try checking the pipe for fuel. If the petcock was left on way back when, the crankcase could have filled (not the trans), and puked into the lower bend of the pipe, restricting or cutting off flow. Off hand chance, but it has happened.

For the spark, you either have it or you don't. Sounds like you have it, since it barked out the pipe earlier. Pull the plug and drag it around some if the plug is wet. It may be flooded. See how much fuel pukes out onto the pipe w/o the plug. An old trick with the big bores, try just screwing the plug in 2 or 3 threads so it leaks some compression. No need to beat yourself diagnosing a big hammer like that one. Weak blue of yellow spark, start checking bad ground, plug, CDI, mag, etc. Strong spark will audibly "snap" across the gap.

If it's carb related (as in no fuel or not enough), plug will be dry after all that kicking and pulling around. Squirt a bit of gas in the plug hole or carb directly. If there's sufficient spark, it will run for a few seconds (compared to just a bark out the pipe) even if the carb is empty.

Good luck.

Thanks, yes early in the day yesterday it had fire, it popped out the exhaust, Damn near blew the head pipe off, Lol!!! I tried bump starting it & it tried to run poorly but it tried. I fouled on plug in it & tried another but somehow I have lost all spark. I thought of the crankcase filling with fuel so I pulled the plug & turned the bike upside down, not much came out. I will try pulling th headpipe loose & seeing if it's full of fuel. Now that you've mentioned that by the time the day was through yesterday the engine was damp below the pipe coming out of the jug. I'll check the pipe too. I'm considering ordering a Clymer manual so I can get specs for the electrical system. I hate to have to but sometimes it's a necessary evil. Are the Clymer manuals any good?

Also, even though it has no consistent spark it will spark occasionally, Wierd.
