IMO, it is impossible to quote that job without tearing it down to see exactly what the problem is. Waaaaaay too many variables...

Mine smoked the same. Standard bore was luckily in great shape, but the oil rings had lost their tension due to overheating and oil starvation (totally plugged and collapsed oil filter). Compression rings and piston were fine. Parts cost me around $75 including both new valves, rings and gasket set. I used Shindy valves (look exactly like the OE Yamaha valves I took out), Namura rings and gaskets. I did the work myself.
Hopefully that's all yours needs, good luck.

Going to my friend today, who's going to look at it. We'll see..... Hopefully just the valves and rings, but like you said, until it's torn down... You'll never know. I want to thank you guys though for all the help. Especially for a newbie !

I just rebuilt mine. The piston and gasket kit off of eBay was $140.00, having it bored 40 over cost me $60, so $200 in all. I was scared too but I read the rebuild section in the manual a couple times then tore it apart ordered parts, took cylinder to shop and put it back together. It runs great!

It is really a good idea to replace the timing chain while you have it apart. They stretch and wear and can break ruining all the hard work just done. They aren't very expensive either.

He has it now, tearing it down. He said he's going to look at everything while he's there. Lower end, timing chain etc. We'll see. If it's too far gone.... There will be a huge parts sale on here LOL

As of now... We know that dirt was sucked into the motor via an improperly installed air filter, and missing air box cover..... Motor is getting flushed out, so we'll see.... hopefully nothing bottom end

Top End is cooked. Piston ring was melted, valves bent, causing the whole top end to be screwed up. Gonna need all new top including the cylinder head itself, with all internals, piston to the cam.

I gave you a link to one at a fair price

I actually just picked one up, complete just need gaskets... Anyone know a legit site for top gaskets including valve stem seals?

Top end could have been bored out and honed, a matching piston set found, but I found a whole top end for the bike on E-bay at a steal. I'm just going to drop that in. The gaskets I found online, was only wondering if anyone used a specific one, because of reputation, but I found on. Thanks

Found a set of Athena Gaskets for the Top End. Only kit I found with Valve Stem Seals. Just waiting on my buddy's valve spring compressor, so I could put everything back in. Looking good so far. Found a Complete top end, all internals included, barely used out a bike with a blown bottom end for $200. The whole top end looked brand new. Just replaced the piston rings, and seals, since we were in there anyway. Just can't wait to ride this beast.
