Well guys this is my 1st post on here and i have to say this is a really informative board you guys have here.

I have a 2004 wolverine at first of course when i got the bike there was enough power. After a while i have now decided to upgrade this bike. I started with an HMF slipon pipe, K&N w/ proflow adapter, Dynojet, and EPI Clutch kit. These additions gave decent gains in power however like everone else i want more and have decide to go in to the motor. I am looking to gain somewhere between 8-12 horsepower with out going extremely deep into the engine. I have looked into the 366cc kit and a web cam (88 grind) along with a valve job and stiffer springs. Would this be enough to see the gains I am looking for or should i get the head ported as well? I ride mostly trails and some mud I am currently running 25" MudLite Xl tires. It turns the tire pretty good right now except on the long muddy hill climbs it tends to bogg a little. I am open to any suggestions and dont really have a budget I just want to keep it as cheap as I can

thanks
Josh

Any reputable motor builder should be able to tell you what you need. I don't know, but 8-12 ponies is a big % gain on this motor though, and would probably at least need the P&P, maybe even more displacement.

Personally if I had a woverine this is what I would do if I didn't want to stroke the engine and run pump gas but still get the most power out of it. 3 to 5 hp gain is about all you will see with both the piston and cam.
I would go with a Powroll 366cc JE 10.5:1 piston.
I would go with either a Web .390 for a little more mid range power less bottom, or the Megacycle 252x2 midrange cam that will give you killer bottom end torque but still have way more power all around then the stock cam.
Get some Kibblewhite springs and retainers.
Have the head ported by Mickey at FST as he does it for the cheapest and still very good flow.
Get some Clutch springs from him and you should be good to go.
Raptor 350 carburater with manifold and cable would be the last thing I would do and greatly improve all around throttle responce and torque while still giving you more top end as its a bigger carb then they would put on the woverine stock but will work awesome.
Since you have big tires you want more torque. Compression and a cam with less overlap will be great benifit to you.
That is a a lot of hp for this small of an engine (8-15) and really only a stroker kit will give you that.
Hope this helps but I think with these mods you would be statified with the results.

Thanks for the input Jasonp that sound like a pretty good plan. I noticed that you said to get the JE 10.5:1 from Powroll I called FST and they said that theirs was a JE piston as well but 11:1. Can I get away with a 12:1 on 93 octane? I really want the most power I can get down low with out losing any on the mid to top end

Yes the older style JE pistons are 11:1, IMO not quite as good. I would go with one guy and that way you can ask what he would do for that aplication and then he'll be able to get to where you want to be rather then mixing and matching parts that will not work so good together.
I don't believe you can run that much compression (12:1) on pump otherwise I would be. I believe 11.5:1 is pushing it. The thing would be to do is call Mickey from FST and ask him..

Talked to Mickey he did not recommend any cam to go along with the 366 cc kit for low to mid gains. He said he was unaware of any change in the piston type from JE other than the compression ratio. I dont have a real shortage of power with the HMF,K&N, Dynojet and The clutch kit however the clutch kit has decreased my top speed a little I would like to get that back plus some with out losing any of what i have now on the bottom end.
