i got this thing on trade.thought finding a cdi for it would be easy boy was i wrong. since that style of duel pulse generators is kinda phased out my question is how hard is it to upgrade to something more parts findable?what all would i need.granted ive never heard this thing run either the cdi was missing when i got it.would it be worth it?thanks
 
so in other words....update the cdi, pulse generator and stator. would the flywheel still work or that too.i really dont like the thought of buying a used cdi!
omg i will not pay 450 for a cdi.i can update wiring and all for less and then i can find new cdis easy. yeah, it was missing when i got it.i dont know if that will fix it.its not a risk im willing to take.so updating the firing system would be the safest bet

When I siad update everything that has a wire connected to it thats exactly what I mean. As the stator and cdi connectors changed so did every other connector. If you do decide to go this route go for 97-01 as they seem to have the most abundance of parts on ebay and elsewhere.
 
i received the cdi but still no spark.looking at the wiring diagram im supposed to have 4 wires coming from the stator to the cdi. i only have 3.is this wrong.during inspection of the wiring i found that two wires are crimped together.should i leave this alone or cut them apart and add another wire. i've spec the stator and it specs fine.what volts should i have coming from the stator as the engine turns over.and how many volts comes out of the cdi to ignite the coil?
 
i tested that but how many volts should be coming from it when its cranking over.jus to be sure everythings working.i tryed to hook my voltmeter up to the wire that goes to the coil to measure volts but with out nowing how many should be there it reallty does no good.
 
Ummm the 300 and 500 are for aftermarket stators like RMstator. I don't have the stock specs in front of my buy the highest one is high 300's if i remember correctly.
