99 350 No spark issue

I picked up a pretty mint 99 warrior 350.. Thing is in beautiful shape.. Right away the electric start didn't work so we push started it.. We ran in a few times no problems up and down the road to test it out.. When we tried to put it in reverse, I know we put it in neutral first, pretty sure your supposed to leave it in first gear.. or it was the other way around, just know we did it wrong.

All of a sudden it back fires starts making a loud woom woom woom woom sound.. Shut it off and parked it for another day..

So I hooked a new battery up and the starter is working fine.. Now I have no spark.. I'm curious if anything in the reverse switch would cause a no spark? I read on one thread about a safety wire you bypass.. That will cause no spark.

I just ordered an ignition coil which maybe the problem, but not wanting to trust my reader -_-

Start by checking all the easy stuff. Good connection of ground wires, good fuse, etc. The only switch that I have bypassed is the clutch safety switch, which is the only one I know of bypassing. You should be able to shift a warrior into reverse while in any forward gear or neutral (even though I always use neutral, I have done it in other gears as well). If your ignition coil is not the problem after you install the new one, you can ohm the stator to make sure that is working within proper specs. Hopefully someone else can help, because I've never heard of one back firing when put into reverse.

Do you know where to find the specs on what ohms each thing should read? I looked at the manual online and it just tells you to go to a dealer if it has no spark lol.. I'm guessing there is repair manuals like they have for cars? Like a chilton.. I have some YouTube videos showing me each wires to test but it doesn't give the readings. Hoping it's the ignition coil, the secondary side the spark plug plugs into isn't showing a reading.. I'm using a cheap reader though. Also I see you can get 9$ coils on eBay.. Wondering if I did the wrong thing ordering a cheap one.

Try to get your hands on a Clymer Manual for the yamaha warriors. It is very helpful and has almost all the specs on the entire quad, along with many pictures and other stuff like that. Those cheap coils usually work fine, but for electronics I personally would buy some higher quality components.
