I got a carb that backfires while at idle. It takes a few minutes of idling but it will do it and then die. I turned up the idle screw for more rpm's and it still will backfire through the carb and die. Other than that, the carb works great. It will run strong and hard without sputtering. I put a rebuild kit on it but can't figure this one out. Should I richen up the throttle needle? I noticed that I have it at the leanest point, clip is on the highest point of the needle. I think it came from the factory in the middle of the needle.

Just to be clear here, this is not a backfire out the tailpipe. This is a loud "poof" in the carb. Also doesn't matter temperature of the bike.

Thanks for any advice.

out the carb means lean. might just need to adjust the air/fuel screw might need to up your pilot jet.

Yeah mine did the same thing. And I didn't do anything about it. Till it bit me in the ass and cracked my intake. After ordering two different ones that didnt fit I just drilled bigger holes in it. But I think that the "back fire" that your talking about is what made mine crack.

mine spitts out like fuel out of the bottom of the carb not sure what to do mayber clean the carb

it comes out of like a over flow spot its a down spout idk

and it only idles on choke and its really high sense its on choke

dude clean your carb inside and out and next time try not to hyjack the thread

Thanks, my sentiments exactly.

I appreciate the feedback elwood. I was thinking it was running lean. The air/fuel was turned out 1 1/2 turns. Took it to 2 1/2 and all seems to be well now. I didn't have time to let it sit there for long so I will report back later.
