I know very little about maintenance or engines of any kind. I bought a 99 warrior used in December of 2009. It ran like a top the few times I was able to ride it. Sat in a barn through a few winter storms and then ran fine when I charged the battery a couple weeks ago. Yesterday and today, I've had trouble with power. It starts up fine, runs and idles fine, but when I get into the throttle, the engine revs, but very little power gets transfered to the wheels. This happens in 1st, second and third gears. beyond that, it seems to loosen up a litte and it will run ok. There's just little to no torque in lower gears. I'm looking for ideas on where to start. Could it be as simple as a fuel problem? I would appreciate any advice on where to start trouble shooting. Thanks

So it revvs out fine just you get no speed? Is it running right and sound right? Quick jab of throttle does what, any bogging, any popping or hesitation? Does it roll fine, no resistance? Any smoke out the exhaust?

Could be clutch slippage. What type of oil you using, when was it last changed? The clutch engaging arm going through its full motion?

that's right. It revs fine. Prior to yesterday, it ran fine. Quick jab of the throttle bogs down a bit and then starts to rev very high with severely under-powered movement of the quad. There is no roll resistance. rolls fine in neutral and as you get into about 4th gear and it loosens up and the rev of the engine starts to match the velocity of the quad. there is some popping at the exhaust. very pronounced as you're downhilling in lower gears. the clutch is very tight and requires a hard pull, but it's manageable. I've read on the forums that it is normal for this quad. I have never changed the oil and don't know what kind it uses. I've had the quad for less than 4 months. I checked the oil and it was clean and to the fill line. That's all I've done with it. It's a very odd problem to describe. Thanks for your response. I appreciate the effort.

seah maybe just a bit, but to me sounds more like clutch slippage. I bet your plates are worn done and if you used synthetic oil its not helping. It it revs through fine and it doesn't seem to be an engine or carb problem, do the add a plate mod or get a whole new clutch (EBC dirt digger)

yeah i agree with deadlast... from what you are describing the clutch is probably smoked already.... but you can try another steel and maybe there is some life left in it...
