I'm looking at getting a 1988 warrior. I was wondering what are some common problems on these and what to look for when i go to look at it? How is the power on warriors? Are they good trail quads? Finally how do they do in water?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I own a 2003 warrior but my buddy has a 88 thing does pretty decent when we take it mudding. And they are made for the trails I love em. About the water tho... No clue never in much to count.

I went riding yesterday and the trails where pretty much rivers lol.

If possible find a second gen. The parts are easier to come by.
These are great trail bikes for sure.
When looking at it to buy, just look for things that are broken loose an rusty. The engines are quite tough. Timing chain is a common problem but it's hard to check while buying the bike.

Haha that sucks! Unless you enjoy riding in all the water

There is nothing wrong with the first gens except the issue with the lower arms being different. I dont understand why there's so much hate for a 1st gen. IMO the 2nd gens arent that good, shorter swingarm and shorter lower a-arms dont help with handling at all. The a-arms should be the same length if not having the upper shorter. Look at any trophy truck or class1 car and look at how the arms are made, theyre either both the same length or the lower is longer and there's a reason fo that.

It really is, ive rode both my 1st and 2nd gen aswell as the raptor 350 nd the 1st gen feels way better then the others. Yamaha messed up the front geometry on the 2nd gens.

Yeah I don't know why Yamaha changed them in 89. I've ridden several 2nd gens and cannot stand how they handle!
