Ive read through all the posts that had Head in them in the search function and did not find the answer to my question. I would like to know if a 2004 head from a Warrior will fit on a 1988? I bought an '88 in perfect condition knowing in advance that the Valves are known to stick. Well, 1st weekend on it about 20 miles from home out in the desert and the intake stuck. Long walk home. Broke cam gear, cam, valve guide and valve. So, new head needed.

It should fit. I swapped a 1999 head onto my 1987 motor. Ive looked at my friends 2004 and everything looks the same.
 
Thanks, I emailed the guy and he said he had a 99 and 04 and they had different castings. I know that 02 and older all interchange, but wasn't sure about the 04.
 
They are all the same 89-06 87-88 had a pull start and the rockers and valve covers are different. 07+ have been reported to use a different cam bearing
 
Duneracerweston ^^^^^, the last year of the Warrior was 2004. All Warriors list P# 1UY-11110-02-00 for replacement head from 1987-2003. 2004 lists P# 5FU-11110-01-00 as replacement. This is why I am asking. They all list same head gasket and cams but a different cam gear form year to year. Does anyone on here "know" for sure if the '04 fits on the '88? Thanks.
 
If im correct 04 was the first year for the raptor 350, but looking up parts its still called warrior. My friends 04 is a raptor. I dont see why the head wont bolt on and work. I had to work on my friends to help him get it running and everything looks the same as my 87 and 99 except the carb and clutch setup.
 
THORrider05, the P# for 04 350 Raptor head is 5YT-11101-00-00, the 04 Warrior is 5FU-11110-01-00, and the 03 earlier is 1UY-11110-02-00. I thank everyone above for the info, I am still curious why the different P# for 04. It also has the same Cam sprocket P# as the '03 and not the Raptor Cam P#. And of course the Stealership has no idea if they interchange or not.
 
Screw part numbers. It will work its the same head shell 87-06

05 is the first raptor 350
04 was the last warrior.

As for cam gears, the cam, rockers and cam gear changed in 87-88, 04-05, 06-07.

I currently have a 05 raptor head on a 03 warrior jug using a wb cam, a 01 warrior gear, custom rockers. Most parts on a warrior interchange.
 
Thanks for the info. I bought the '04 head. Gonna put bronze valve guides and Kibble white valves in it to lessen the chance for sticking valves and the Big Bear oil cooler setup. Live in Las Vegas and it gets a little warm here.

I agree about the part# thing.

I wonder why my friends raptor is an 04 then. Maybe its a california thing but not sure.

They have different part#'s only because yamaha made a small change inside the head itself not the whole design of the head and motors. Id say the thing they changed is a lil better design/ part than the previous years, But the head itself is still interchangeable
 
If you go to Temeculamotorsports.com or bikebandit or any of those and look in the computer based micro fiche, they all list 2004 as the first year of the Raptor 350 and 660, And the last of the Warrior 350. But, like alot of vehicles, things are made in 2004 for model year 2005.

I had this issue with a shop near me, my friend went to order a oil drain plug they looked up raptor 350 for 2004 ordered the part and it was wrong. looked up the same part but for a 2004 warrior and it gave us the correct part. Also looking at the fiche for the 2004 raptor 350 it was a different motor than the 2004 warrior. (this was using whatever program the shop uses, ive looked up on ronayers and its the same part#)

Thanks for that link. Its easier to navigate. It also lists the same 2 different P#'s for the '04 head and '03 earlier. The '03 earlier is $713, "04 is $564. Smart person would tell dealer if they were buying a new head to get the '04.

That's why I usually don't go on forums. Too many children that want to be bigshots on the internet and hear/see themselves talk. 03yamwarrior, nobody was talking to you and our discussion was over. However, U felt a need to read and then comment when just reading and passing by would have sufficed. Normally I would just pass this by as I have on many of the other threads I've seen this forum. But, since I started this thread with a question and was getting good advice I feel the need to ask 03yamwarrior to stay out unless it is to add something technical on the subject. Thank you.

I wish there was a like option on this forum.

I was not trying to be a bigshot nor hear/see myself talk i was just giving information about what was asked. If i was trying to be a bigshot i would have said things alot differently. Its people like 03yamwarrior that start thread derailment.

diesel_lv - I hope all the info that was discussed prior helped you out with your question
