Whenever I back off the throttle suddenly, or begin slowing down and downshifting, I get a bunch of those mini-backfires, and occasionally a huge backfire. I'm certain part of this is the lack of baffle, but a mini-backfire every half second or so sounds like too often to me. Any suggestions?

from what i understand that is caused by a lean condition on the pilot/ fuel screw... i dont have the same pipe as you but i went to a size bigger pilot and it helped A LITTLE... you can try turning out the fuel screw some and see what happens

I would try adjusting the pilot first and making sure the air filter is oiled good if its a stock filter. I think I could use a bigger pilot jet myself by just having the spark arrestor removed.

Oh yeah, the air filter is oiled good I know and yes it is a stock filter. So y'all are saying move the position of the needle, or get a bigger jet altogether? I've never been inside one of these carbs. And 2000warrior, was the gains you did on your airbox mod worth the effort? Becuase I'm also on a limited budget.

well depends on how much u like to "tinker" as far as fixing the misalinement <(yes i cant spell)issue yes ... very worth it ..

i dont care what anyone says , i felt a power difference ...not nothing huge but u could tell it was breathing better

i can take pics of what i did if youd like

no not the needle .....

you need the pilot jet ....its inside the carb .. take thebowl off then the pilot is down inside the little small passage in front of the big brass flat head screw<your main jet by the way>

the pilot is very small , u will need a tiny flat head screw driver to get it out

The baffle is just there to reduce sound but taking it out may reduce back pressure also and possibly losing a bit of horse power. My buddies have done it and they say they felt a loss of power

Well it wasn't my choice. The guy I bought the warrior from said it was no pipe on it when he got it. The one thats on there came from the junkyard, so naturally there's no baffle in it. I hope it wasn't ran long with no pipe.
