Hey guys. I have an odd problem with my 89 Warrior. After riding for a while, the quad will backfire out of the exhaust a couple seconds after the engine shuts down. This happens more often than not, but not every single time.

At first I thought it was running rich, but I checked the plug and it appears to be slightly lean, although not dangerously so.

The only mod to the bike is a DG exhaust.... or rather "loudener" lol

Valves are adjusted correctly, as is the plug gap.

mine does the same thing, white bros exhaust, k&n filter with modded box, and a few other bolt ons nothing crazy... and i believe ive got it down to a science lol... i think that when you shut the engine down and its halfway between a stroke where the exhaust valve is just starting to open... it ignites the fumes and travels out the exhaust... thats just my thinking on it but i dont think it hurts anything as long as nothing catches on fire from it... just saying what i think....

Thanks guys. I'll check the plug in the summer time (my primary riding season) and adjust the mixture from there. It could be too lean with that aftermarket exhaust. Or it could be due to the fact that it's F'ING COLD here, and we're still quadding.

:eek:hno: Amazing.
You guys will be cryin' the blues when the exhaust valve burns, piston crown melts or the top ring siezes to the piston. :iagree: Doesn't matter what outside temp is.
It takes no longer than 30 seconds to check a plug. Honest.

A little rich? No problemo. Lean =
