so, i bought a "1995" yamaha warrior last june 23rd for 700$. one tire was flat, plastics were solid not cracked but not faded. burned some oil, but not much, everything is straight. But, when i get back, and do some more research into warriors i realized this is a 1991, but ah well, so within the first week i put a tube in the one flat tire, sanded and painted the plastics/ did some general light maintenance. rode it worry free through the summer, but one muggy fall day i was doing donuts in the slippery sand and noticed that it felt like the quad was draginng, or fellt laggy, so i stopped put it in neutral, lifted up the front spun th front tires, seemeed fine. so i went another 2 mins to see what was up... i get to a flat and its still been acting wierd, so i go to pull up a wheelie, it justemidietly ****** to the right, so im like ??? try again, just jerks, so then i realize that my right tire is spinning while my left isnt while doing a burnout. so bring it back, fearing that my axle was stripped, but luckily it was only hte hub, so i take off the hub, which was stripped from the cotterpin breaking, then ther hub-nut coming loose. but that was a cheap fix, bought a oem hub off a yfz450 on ebay. rode it on the lake in the winter, thing was terrible in the snow, but oh well. then the stator died, so instead of buying a 50 dollar one from the internet, i got a small auto motive stator from the local autozone for 10$ semmed to work fine, but then my startor cluthc roached so i just bought a pull start by listing a wanted ad on craigslist. got one the same night for 30$, lot cheaper then those ones for 60-120 on ebay... but i still needed the catch sheath, so went on ebay gt one for 6$ w/ 8$ shipping lol. it didnt have a skid plate, so i welded one up out of .25" thick steel, helps when you choose to do some trail blazin and can run right over logs and stumps without worrying about bending or breaking chains disks rotors, Etc. next i decided i wnated to paint the rims, nerfbars, and frame black, so i ended up useing truckbed coating on the whole thing, except plastics course. so thats holding up pretty well, i also swapped the rims around so the back rims are on the oppisite sides, and have the insides facing out, widened the rear 1-2 incehs for free, that thing is ungodly stable, its hard to get it on two wheels even when i wnat to i just dont see h ow those rims did that much, but i gues the 25lb skidplate on the bottome lowers the center of gravity too ;D .but lately she's been burning more oil then any two stroke should so figured it was finally time to rebuild her, tore down the topend, gonna do the rings and we know a guy thats done some head work for are cars, so hes gonna just look into the head after he removes the broken exaust stud i broke, he does decent rates, for a rebuild on the two heads from a v6 he charged 700ish with the parts so shouldnt cost too much for the quad head. when i bought the quad i wished yamaha had done a four valve head like honda does, but now that im rebuildin it, im happy its only two ;) . depending on how much the head work costs i might get some new rear tires (i have itp blackwaters, they do good in sand, but are heavy powerrobbing beasts) and might get a chain/ sprocket set. one thing thats definate is the oil cooler, ive seen a oil cover off a big bear 350 for bout 15-20on ebay, then about 30 for a new small tranny cooler and lines. but i will keep everyone updated when i hear back form the headguy.
