Sorry if theres a tut but i searched and the only on i found the post was half deleted. I was wondering how hard/easy it is to replace the timing chain on my warrior?

I am almost positive it is the culprit making all thisnoise and i checked the tensioner and it was almost all the way out so its time for a D.I.D and solve this prob.

Should i attempt to do it myself or take it to a dealership?

I have no clue how to even start haha. thanks or if anyone lives near pittsburgh pa and wants to come over my garage and help me i can pay ya and u can use my tools and work in a nice heated garage! haha

i will take a vid and have u guys takea listen, i just adjusted the vavlves to the right spec. so i kno here not the valves. let me know.

take the tesioner ajuster off. pull the stator cover, then take off the flywheel(you need a puller). Take the cam sprocket cover off, then take the sprocket off. Now you can change the chain. then put it back together and time it.

Its not to bad of a job if you have an idea on how to do it or if you have a clymer manual or something like it. If i was closer i would comeand help haha.

If the chain is that stretched you might have to get new cam chain guides, as they might be wore too.

how can i see if i need to cam chain guides? they hard to install as well?

also should i get a new cam gear?

If the cam guides are worn you will have to take the head off to get them out. Look at them very closely. There shouldn't be any metal showing. The cam gear should be fine. Unless you want to, it should be fine.

ohh well screw that i dont wanna tear the head off haha

Well if the guides are fine then you wont have to. The ones in my warrior were perfectly fine when i did the rebuild on it.

ohh gotcha so just remove the cam chain and just take a flash light and look down the hole?

how do u take off that cam sprocket the bolt just keeps spinning the sprocket? haha do i got to torque that to a ft lb?

HAHAH, I just sent you like 10 texts and then I hop on here to see you got a thread going as well.

Hahaha i know right sorry bout that just dont wanna fudge anything up haha

ohh was i suppose to find TDC before taking out the flywheel and cam chain lolol ?

If you have an impact wrench you can use that to get the cam sprocket bolt off. That's the quickest, easiest way to get it off.

Okay well i got the Chain on and everything is ready to go i started it up and it still ticks , i made a video of the first start up.

also i used loctite on the cam sprocket bolt.

i had a torque wrench but for some reason it didnt work so i just tightened down the flywheel bolt and the cam bolt pretty tight with just muscle, do u think that is good?

does this sound like valves? i just want the tick to go away! my buddies warrior doesnt tick at all.

also the valves are in check

It does to me.
May also be a wiped cam lobe(s) or lack of top end lube (oil flow). Mine had both, which took out both rockers, galled the rocker shafts and beat the lash adjustment screw tips, too. Mine started and ran fine, made no real crazy noises either (PO had adjusted the valves to get rid of the clicking :loco:).

You could verify it pretty easily if you have a slide hammer to pull the cam. It will be easy to see wiped lobes. Gotta take the top sprocket, bearing retainer and turn the adjusters out to pull it, that's all.

Even if the components are OK, at least you'll KNOW for sure then. Not much else left up top to make noise...

Your timed right and your valves are adjusted properly, gettin plenty of oil to the head? If all thats fine you have nothing to worry about. These quads tick. Two valves will do that.

im almost positve its timed right and valves are in spec.

it should be getting good oil to the head i dunno maybe thats it since thats the first time i started it with the new oil. it sat without oil for a week or so.

you think maybe its the oil i use?

I use semi - synthetic bel ray thumper 10w-40 oil. should i go all synthetic and a higher weight?
