cam ???

OK i have a ??? i put new rockers in my warrior last summer and the cam was a used one but was in nice shape and i had a buddy adjust the valves in it and i may have ran the bike about 20 time last summer and the cam and rockers are shot now what would cause it to flat spot the cam and rockers ???? i took pics to show you guy don't know if you can see the damage or not any help would be great :argh:

I would check if he EVER changed the oil in that thing. Thing is nasty and that head is DRY.

ok but in the pics that i took i cleaned the head all up to see what i could see that is why it look like that so get a oil pump is what your saying

5th pic down, the inner bearing. See that blue? That's WAAAAAY too much heat, friction = heat, no oil = lots of friction. The only other thing that comes to mind would be valve lash set to tight but anything that tight would have floated the valves, had trouble starting, ran like ****, etc.

Another thing would be if you installed the cam and rockers dry. Always use assembly lube on the lobes and rocker faces when installing them. At the very least smear em really good with oil. Another thing I do is pour a half a quart of oil into the head through the intake valve cover when doing a top end. No risk of "dry start".

Dont one of the head bolts feed oil to the top of the motor or does the timing chain splash it up there?

Yep it feeds up around one of the head bolts. Can't remember which one, but there is a small hex head/Phillips screw on the head that you can remove to see if oil is pumping to the head. I'd post a pic but I'm 10,000 miles from my bike.

The right rear head bolt's passageway doubles as the oil galley for the head. Just crack open that tiny bolt Sparky was talking about while it is running. If oil does not come out within the first minute, SHUT IT OFF!

The only place that I know of for cam bearings are Yamaha. I've gotten several from factory. Be super careful when replacing the inner bearing. They can be a mofo to remove. Usually the needles and cage come out, and get in the head. You will have to be sure to stuff a rag in the timing chain passageway so any bearing material will not fall into the bottom end. You will also need a magnet to pick up all bearing debris. To remove it, you need a blind bearing remover, or slap hammer.

I prefer to use an old cam to install it. Spray is really good with lube, put it on the end of the cam, and drive it in. If you don't use something that fits in the bearing perfectly (like an old cam), then the needles can get jarred hard enough to pop out, and you CAN NOT get them back in.
