carb and air box ?

when i got my warrior it didnt have a air box or a filter on it... I bought a uni filter for it... My problem is that it has awsome torque but when im running down the road as in dirt road that is.. it seems like it sputters alittle but if i pull the clutch in and rev it up like your cleaning it out it runs fine for abit then sputters again... Does that mean i need to retune my carb.. Ive put a new plug in it but havent pulled it to see the color yet.. any info would be great thanks..

ok i just pulled the plug it was nice and black.. Not burning oil cause its still on the full mark... So i guess i must be running rich and its loading up on just normal or i should say about half throttle going down the road.. As far as i know all i have done to the atv is a hmf slip on and a uni air filter with no lid.. The kid told me it had a hot cam in it but cant tell you realy sounds like it does.. Just curious wich way to go... Forgive me for all the questions this is my first atv and i would love to know more about them... I build cars and road sport bikes but those were all fuel injection and messing with the computer to make them run..lol

check your jet, see what the size is, then try going down one size on it, you can also try adjusting your needle height or the pilot air screw

also go threw it and check all the gaskets an o rings, chances are that there could be a hole in one, and whne you get on a bumpy dirt road it could shake some of the fuel around and maybe leak into placese it shouldnt, also might want to drain the bowl, coudl be some crap in there

ok pulled it apart tonight... seemed clean but i went ahead and cleaned... It has a 150 main jet and 42.5 pilot. the air mixer screw on the bottom of the car was turned three and half turns out from close i so i turned it in a hlaf and ill play with it this weekend and see how it runs.
