Has a dead spot right off idle. If you dont ease into it, it dies. But will then start right back up. Runs great through out the rest of the throttle poistion.

Was ok. Then I noticed it was leaking gas out the drain tube. I cleaned the stop screw and it quit leaking gas, now just has a dead spot.

Carb has less than 20 hours on the rebuild. Motor is .040 over and the rest is stock. Piloy screw is around 2 to 2 1/2 turns out. it didnt seem to help by adjusting it.
 
no the needle is your midrange. a deadspot right off idle would be the acelerator pump not spraying right or debris in the pilot jet

Thats what I was gonna say... Check the diaphragm in your accelerator pump. Even a pinhole in there will cause all kinds of problems.

Is that the little cover is on the side of the carb... or the rubber boot that covers the pump..

I know gen1 knows but I know that you have to buy a new spring acellerator pump and boot all in one and I think it cost like 30 bucks
 
So more than likely it was sucking air around that boot. That explains why it was fine till i pulled the carb bowl off. The valve cap must have tore it when I put it back together.

I think Im gona cut a little piece of plastic to put under the arm instead of the valve cap on the rod. Seems I wont have to worry about the boot getting tore.
 
Yes you have to buy the whole damn thing as an assy. The cap wont tear it. They get old and dry rot. Then when you take it apart, the rod gets tugged on and rips it. Usually in the ribs.
 
Could a person maybe find a small o-ring to fit where the boot does to seal it up. Seems that would be cheaper and easier.
 
Problem is, once the rod moves, the o ring will move with it. It wouldn't stay seated against the bottom of the carb body, after the 1st whack of the throttle. That's why it's an accordian boot.
 
Was thinking of finding one small enough to fit down inside the carb. The part where the boot goes in a gets held in place.
