Let me start off by saying this is my first post. New to this forum as well, although the last couple days I've been reading nonstop all I can. This place is awesome! I just recently acquired a 2003 warrior stock to my knowledge. will only run when you hold throttle down. I can help it start with carb cleaner and hold throttle half way down and will run. As soon as I let off throttle she dies instantly. I've cleaned carb probably 4 times and ordered carb kit, (will be here this weekend). I'm stumped as to what this may be. even when im holding throttle to run it doesnt sound very healthy at all. I'm getting plenty of spark and fuel. rubber between head and carb is fine.
-any and all help is greatly appreciated thanks in advance

I took pilot jet out yesterday and It didn't seem to be clogged or anything. although I'm not sure? are you suppose to be able to see through pilot jet? I'll take a look again today at lunch and clean thouroghly. Thanks for the quick response!

Yes you will see light through. I use a small piece or wire and poke it through to make sure its clean

took carb off again and cleaned every possible orifice very well. I'm positive theres nothing stopped up in the carb. put it back on and stil doing the same thing. it will start on choke but I have to keep mashing throttle to keep running. it sounds like the higher the rpm the cleaner it would run but I could never eat it to stay at a steady rpm. It just dies immediately after letting off throttle. I'm stumped....

I know this sounds like duh, but sometimes I overlook the obvious. Did you try turning the idle speed screw up?

yes sir sure did. all the way in an out still no change, aswell as the air/fuel screw still nothing. new fuel line aswell, when I open the screw on the bottom of the carb bowl fuel comes out so I know I'm getting fuel also.

Sounds like it's out of time or valves are out of adjustment.

alright I guess that's the next step is to check the timing I know there's a how to on here I'm gonna try that first. how would I know if I sheared the flywheel key?

just awhile ago when I tried starting it again it would run and run steady on choke but then it definately sounds like something's making it stop now.. I'm thinking timing may be the best route to go next but my question if I sheared the flywheel key would I be doing no good checking timing? seeing as I would have to open it up completely to fix that I'm assuming?

Don't start it any more until you check the timing. You could have PTV if the timing is all f*cked up and destroy the valves, head and piston.

check your marks on the cam gear with the mark on timing chain and only haave to open the timing gear/cam gear cover to see. Better to be sure before tearing into something more!

Never trust any marks on a timing chain always use the marks on the cam gear and the flywheel.

I'm going to check timing today before I do anything else. does the piston have to be TDC to read the timing right? I know in order to adjust it has to be but I'm just looking to see what's supposed to be "normal" for timing. like what my marks are supposed to be lined up to? I'm hopeing I haven't screwed something up to bad by running it like that. I gues I will see.
-thanks everyone for the help I really apreciate it!!!

Ok so I moved the flywheel where the T is lined up and up top my mark is sitting on the bottom dead at 6 aclock position? Is this right?isnt the white mark supposed to be pointed at 12 aclock position? I didn't check if my piston was at TDC but I will later.

Turn flywheel one more revolution and line "T" mark again, then check cam gear mark and make sure it lines up pretty close to the little arrow on the head.

sure enough I turned flywheel one more revolution and timing is dead on.. now what??? lol
