Hey there, just bought a remanufacterd carb that is spotless and everything functions...put it on but....

you guessed it gas still comes out the overflow on the bottom of the bowl.. is there ANYTHING else that could cause this? i mean the carb has to be good.. i tested 4 different carbs now and spent almost 400 dollars. this is so frustrating. anything you can suggest checking would be greatly appreciated..

I thought i might be dirt getting into the carb but i cleaned out the tank, petcock and put an inline fuel filter so no debris is getting in. i just dont know now..?

WTF? I've been tellin you ll along dude, its an AIR issue. Your carbs are fine. Your throwing money in the wrong direction. The "over flow" shouldn't be loose anyways. The bottom of the bowl screw is a drain.

I read before you said your not mechanically minded. Its dieing and backforeing because if AIR. It has to be a cracked boot, timeing is off, valves are outta spec, exhaust backflow, wrong spark gapping or something like that.

Ship that carb back, pocket your money and get an ATV mechanic to look it over.

I just figured it was a carb problem since the overflow is still leaking? I just replaced the boot and checked it. The valves are good. Only think I didn't check was the timing how can that be done also deadlast if I can't fix this can I run it down to you?

So you personally gaped the valves? Have you rechecked the carb boot? All your motor mounts arr tight right? (it could of ripped again from you taking the carb off so much) I told you I can work on it and that offer stands. I'd hate to see you have to sell it for something as simple as this. Just that perhaps if I personally see it, id be easier to figure it out.

Timing in easy. http://www.yfm350.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21505&highlight=timing

Ya I didn't adjust the valves there in gap as far as I see. Can you pm you info ? Thanks for helping me so far. And maybe when I'm down there I can look at that dirtbike I'm interested in you have?

i bet you deadlast will have it up and running in no time! if you will just take it to him.

there in gap as far as you can see??? You need a feeler gauge to see if they are actually in spec dude. Its definitely not a visual thing.

I sold the yz426 some time back, dunno if your asking about that but the xr250 is still around and still for sale.

I used a feeler gauge I will tell see what one I used when I get back it's just not tight is what I meant. I'm goin home tonight and gonna check the timing either tonight or tomorrow. Looks easy. Also what would explain the carb go drip gas still though?? 4 carbs now did it. A air leak wouldn't do that would it?

no, but like I said, bottom of the carb should be tight, its not the true overflow its drain.

Hmmmm got it so that's normal for the drain to leak? I'm gonna go home and check the timing. The intake boot. And the plug if not the problem what day are you free the only day I'm off this week is sat

actually the carb will overflow out of the drain tube also, maybe your float it a tick too high

Inst there an overflow and a bottom drain tube as on these things?

Yeah beastly, thats an option. U gunna be there on Sat? Don't you work?

if you look at the inside of the bowl there is a brass pipe that sticks straight up in the center... it is an overflow, see if the gas gets to high then it runs into the pipe kinda like how some people have overflows setup in their ponds, and out the "drain" tube in the bottom?.. also if you open the drain screw it comes out the bottom...

a lot of times people dont realize the overflow works like that because the gas actually overflows out of the vent tube. the reason it goes out of the vent tube instead of the overflow is because the drain/ overflow is packed full of dirt an plugged. therefore the gas level continues to rise and it come out the vent. the vent is just there so the float bowl doesnt vapor lock... make sense?

Well I just checked:

Timing = Good
Valves = Just adjusted them to 0.08mm intake and 0.18mm exhaust
Plug = Good, should I buy a new one?
Carb = Good? Its remanufactured so i assume good.
Intake boot = New, no rips

Now the quad wont even start! DeadLast if you get this quad running normally you will be my hero.

I will wait till deadlast looks at it i dont want to make a mess for him.

The guy i bought my carb off of is a professional carb guy. It was adjusted to factory specs, needle settings, jet settings, and also float height. I believe the guy. i mean 4 of the carbs i used gas came out of the carb and that is the moment where the quad started having problems like stalling and back firing...

Yupp. We figured it out. 7hrs later. Hahahahah. Needs a new CDI. We tested it using Beastly's CDI and it fired right up. Anyways. I basically went over the whole quad and fixed loose odds and ends and worked on the rear end and re gapped the vales, ect. Also my brother bought a multimeter to test all the electrical, least we got a new tool outta the deal!
