I have been looking at carbs on ebay. Both the Raptor and Z400 carbs look exactly the same. Are they the same carb with different jetting? Are they both 36mm cv carbs? If they are the same, it would make more sense to use the Raptor so the jetting would be correct.

What is the best way to adapt the air filter to either of these carbs. I understand that the inlet is larger than the stock Warrior carb. Does anyone ever just remove the air box and just run a slip-on filter with an outerwear directly on the carb?

they are a different style mount. So you must either buy a intake manifold adaptor or intake for a raptor. The stock intake boot should still fit over the mouth of the carb. You can mount a air filter direct or buy the intake system from the raptor and mod it to the warrior.
From what I've read is that the 400z carb is actually a little larger, so it might flow a little more air. Yes the jetting will be more on with the raptor carb.

The only reason I got the Z400 carb was because they go for dirt cheap, $45+shipping for a practically new carb is amazing. I think (don't quote me on that) that the Z400 carb is actually 37mm, remember seeing that somewhere.

So the filter-side is bigger than the warrior's?

my father's aftermarket warrior carb bolts right up to my z400. Mad cow, I might be wrong but I believe in 05 they bumped it up to 38 I know for sure they raised the size from 04 to 05.I think it was from 35mm to 38mm.

Probably from 36 to 38 then, those are nice, even numbers. So the airbox side port is the same size?

EDIT: Just measured mine, auction said that it's off an '05 and it was 36-37mm ID, around 40mm OD.
