my buddies warrior developed a knocking noise. he thought it sounded like the topend and i thought it was a rod knock so we decided to tear into the head.

first i took the covers off to make sure the valves were okay and that the nuts hadn't backed off, they were fine. so then i checked the timing which was okay. i then proceeded to take out the cam and check it.

i almost can't describe what was done. the cam is chewed up, the rocker arms are destroyed, and the rear bearing is non existent. it's almost like the ppl who had it before my buddy didn't install the rear bearing with the cam. anyway, the only thing left in the rear was a couple of the needles and some pieces of metal from god knows where. i didn't even see the bearing cage or race, w/e it's called. i feel the next step is to drop the oil and check the filter to see if the other needles are in there somewhere.

i'm pretty comfortable with taking this down further, but i don't know what else we need to do. does the case have to be split to inspect for bottom end damage? he seems to think that he can get by with a different head that hasn't been thrashed to ****.

i just don't have an opinion for him on what to do. i hate to tell him what i think because it would crush him. he's only had this thing 2 months maybe and we thought it was a good deal.

what do you guys suggest? this **** sucks major balls.

:argh:

btw, if he doesn't care i may be able to get pics of the carnage this evening so you guys can see what we're dealing with.

i would drain the oil and see what you find... i might also check the cylinder and piston for scaring,,, i would also take the clutch cover off and make sure there is not any pieces in there too,,, that would be a good start...
