If you guys have read the rebiuld thread, Ive got the motor running good now. But the clutch wont disengage at all. Ive never actually messed with a atv clutch before and the manual isnt very much help. So what could be up to cause this.:argh:

do you have a chain on it yet? I've heard it makes a difference with the clutch, but I dont know why

Ya just put a temp one on tonight, thats how I knew for sure it wasnt disengaging. I did this not running put it in gear, Pulled the clutch in and I couldnt roll it at all. I even used a pliers to take the are farther to see if I just needed to adjust things and no go. I did have the clutch cover off over the weekend, when I was figuring out if the clutch was good yet.

ok so it's not engaging the clutch. I had to do this once, got told by shop to try it before replaceing the clutches on my bike. I sat for about 8 month and the clutch wouldn't work. The shop told me to start it and get it moving, we used 2nd and just kicked it into gear(took a few times) then hold the cluch lever in, give it gas and press to rear brake. It puts stress on the plates and might pop them loose. We did this for about 5 mins and they broke loose. been using that same clutch for going on 5yrs. pm me with your # and I can explain it better if you need me to

Could it be possible for plates to seize to one another? Or maybe the cam piece on the inside of the arm isn't working properly? I'd say pull it apart and try to figure it out

Might have to give that a try, I know exactly what your talking about. Ive had to do that on a old MTD rider that my dad has. If anyone else has any other ideas let me know, I wanna take her for a spin tomorrow.

Hmm is there any clutch pull on the lever? If not adjust it till its got just enough slack in the lever to stick a quarter inbetwean the lever and the perch

If its gotclutch pull try cranking it and puting it in gear hold the breaks and the clutch and hammer it and see if it breaks free if it don't I betch the guy before u left a wave spring out of it and that will cause it to not disenage and stick if ur not sure bout what I'm tlking bout luck it up at www.cheapcycleparts.com and looks up that year model and look at the clutch pack and there should what looks like a washer the sipze of a clutch plate but its a spring

When I had the cover off Im pretty sure the cam piece was working fine, but if elwoods idea doesnt work Im gonna pull the cover anyway and Ill verify.

Ya its got clutch pull, Im really thinking its what elwood siad. You could tell when I picked up the parts quad that it came out of that it had been sitting awhile.

Ya just gotta get the stuff if need be to take it apart. I hope breaking it loose does work, cause I really dont want to have to take it apart til it needs replacing.

Well started playing with it, with the rear in the air. Put it in gear, revved it up, pulled the clutch in and hit the rear brake at the same time. Freed it up for a bit, did it a few more times and then I hopped on and started a short ride using the clutch alot. I think its good to go.

never thought about putting it in the air. My bro and I did paper rock siccors to see who was going to kick it in gear with no clutch. He had to do it lol. He killed it a few times and about flipped it over twice before he got it going then rode around holding the rear brake and the clutch lever

I was hoping it would, few more things and I can take it for a real ride. A little tightening of things, check tire pressure and she should be good to go.

Ive done enough crazy/stupid stuff to try something a little safer at first. Clutch is still a little sticky, but the more I moved around using it the better it got.
