would it be wise to get a recoil for back up? i will get a new starter but my buddy has a blown up warrior and he told me to grab the recoil, should i?

You'll need the valve cover and rocker arm for the compression release also. You can pull start it without one, but... it's a rope breaker...don't say nobody warned you...:iagree:

My feeling is...put a new starter on it...and buy a used takeoff from a member here and throw it in your truck.....
If you are going to spend the money on a recoil....buy a spare starter instead....It goes on easy.....
