Im just wondering if there is supposed to be a piece between the head pipe and the muffler? When my head pipe is mounted its 1 to 2 inches short of the muffler opening.

Thanks
justin

What kind of header, what kind of silencer? None of them are designed to use a midpipe like what you are describing. I'm guessing you have mismatched aftermarket parts, some aftermarket parts are designed only to work as a matched pair because the lengths are different than stock.

All stock parts. Stock muffler and Stock head pipe. Thats whats confusting me. Head pipes and mufflers are the same 87-06 arnt they? I have a 88 motor in a 01 frame if that matters. But the headpipe is from a 98 and the muffler is from an 01 I think.

Posting a picture may help, but i'm still leaning towards you have an aftermarket header or something like that and don't know it. They should be the same through all the years, and they definitely never had a seperate midpipe. Looking at parts diagrams will confirm this for you, all years will have the same part numbers.

ok Ill post some pics, im almost 100 percent i have a stock head pipe because it has the holes in it for the heat shield.

This really bothers me lol :-/

here are some pix of the pipe

Everything is stock parts, I am clueless on whats not working!!

Weird!........perhaps the rear exhausts is to far back? That mounted to the stock location?

Yea all mounting tabs are in stock places. Thats whats really bothering me.

Could somebody post up some close up pix of there exhaust? and the mounting points.

This one has me stumped. I just checked all the part numbers again and both the mufflers and headers are same through the years.

This really sucks!! I want to go riding but can't because of this crap. I looked at some pics on e bay and it seems like the bolt hole for the head shield lines up with the forward reverse lever. Mine is not lined up, but when i try to get it lined up I cant get anymore pull out of it. All the heads were the same correct?? maybe the head pipe is bent? Its the second one I got and they both were like this.

only other think I can think of is that the engine for what ever reason is leaning to far forward? Highly unlikely though.......i bet I could figure it out if I were to see it up close and personal........YAMA lives in PA as well......is reading close to york or even close to me in Akron?

Got it all fixed up today, I must of had the wrong head pipe. Got the new one and it fits perfectly.
