I've ridden dirtbikes a few times. Found it very similar to riding horse (been doing that my whole life). Just not my cup of tea. I'd hardly ever ride it. Atleast I have the rack on the warrior so it can be used around the farm, too. I've got a lead on an 07 or 08 yfz that I can probably get for a song. Guy bought it new, and it hasn't ran in several years. He thinks it has no spark, or may need a rebuild (he really doesn't have a clue). Bike was his son's and he doesn't ride anymore. He'll let me take it to my shop, diagnose the problem(s), and make him an offer. He'll also trade for a 250-350cc ute for the farm, and hunting. Soooo... we all know I can't get enought for my warrior even with what I've done to it, to even buy a nice low hours 05 400ex, but I can sell it for enough to buy a decent ute quad, come out money ahead, and trade for the yfz. Now, that being said, the yfz has no reverse, something I consider a necessity, so I may make it 100% and sell for something that does. But this is all in the planning stages.

I bought my wife a 96' Scrambler 400 this spring..
If your looking for a cool quad that has the best of both worlds (sport, and 4x4) I'd look into one of those. The one I got has a rear rack, and a winch. It's in great shape. I picked it up for $1500, but had to put a new starter in it. That was no big deal..
I love that quad.. I took it just as far as the guys with big buck 4x4's were going, and it kept up with my friends banshee on the straits. :iagree:

Sorry man. I just can't own a polaris. Lol. But those 400 2 strokes can be made to rip! I have ridden one that was modded. Wicked fast for what it is. I still have my 88 honda trx300 4x4 that I have modded out. I jump that bitch too! lol. It's been an awesome quad but with having the warrior I mainly use it around the farm and to pull my bush hog. It makes a great spare for visting family, too. Best bike honda EVER made. They were stupid to stop making it. We have 3 at home. We venture to guess my dad's 99, that he bought new, has every bit of 30k miles on her, and has never been apart. Still has the ORIGINAL battery!

Well I wasn't a big polaris fan either till I got this one.
It's had some work done to it though 2. It also has a custom made pipe. I'm not sure what all has been done to it, but it ate a stock scrambler!

The only reason I bought it, was cause I'm sick of working on 4 strokes. Same reason I swapped the 490 into my warrior.

But the Scrambler is in my top 10 favorite quads now for sure!!
It hasn't disappointed me, and has taken me farther than other 4x4's I've ridden.

Just say'n. :iagree:

You know this thread kinda has me thinking?
If I decide to use banshee shocks on my lightened hybrid, will I run the risk of the same thing happening to my uppers?

I don't plan on being very nice to it.. But the banshee shocks are said to be just a bit softer than the warrior shocks.

But I have like "no" weight over the front of my quad.

You'd prob be okay because my works are stiffer. They are set up for 160-195lb mx/211-250lb recreation. I weigh 180 and they work great for my riding style. I was going to add a plate like I said earlier in this thread, but if I'm going to say goodbye to her I won't bother.

I just remembered... I looked at the yfz last night. Here is the good: noice aluminum nerfs, pro tapers, and a teether kill switch. The bad: rear tires almost bald, chain streetched to the max, grad bar & tail light broken off, front bumper partially destroyed, rear fender brackets bent down, parking brake handle & cable are flopping in the wind. And it supposedly wont start and that's why it's been sitting for a few years. Just keeps gettin cheaper:)

I hear ya! This crap is so damn expensive! I like my hondas (don't judge me!), they've been in my family for years. Biggest complaint with the 450r is light front end and it needs shims to adjust the valves. Biggest complaint with yamaha, honda, and suzuki 450s is no reverse! But, when I was looking at the yfz lastnight, I could pick up the front end with one hand an probably tilt it on it's ass with ease. That's how light it is. The rear isn't much heavier. So if I get it (depending on why it isn't starting and how much the parts are) I'll do the small **** to it, ride it, and if I can live without reverse I'll keep it. If not, I'll make it 100% and sell it. No joke, I'll prob end up with a 400ex. Not AS good of suspension as any 450, but 450r shock bolt right up with some clearencing, and the ergos are much better than the warrior. And, for $450 on ebay, I can get a 440cc JE 10.8:1 forged piston, with sleeve and gaskets, plus a stage 2 hotcam (all I need), and kibblewhite valve spring (not necessary but I feel better with em). All I need then is an exhaust and do some intake work, p&p, and I'd be set. Still have the 39mm fcr from 00' WO YA! and it'd be on that bitch quick!

I'm just don't like suzuki that much. Always felt their trans' are notchy. Runnin a 1st gen I can't get my suspension set up the way it could use to be. What I've been thinking about doing is adding a little foam to the seat, lowering the pegs a tad, adjusting my front shocks, adding a shee rear shock, might change it completely. We'll see what happens.

The ride difference from the stock to the rappy rear shock is like night to day now when I switch to riding the 01 it beats the hell out of me compared to the 02 with the rappy shock plus a higher ride hight too

Well fellas, I picked up that yfz on my way home from work. Drove to my friends house so he could get a look at it. He found a wire that was stripped and from there the work began. Took it off the truck, and pulled the front body work off, found 3 wires rubbed through, I stripped, 2 for the fan bypassed directly to the ignition switch, and the aftermarket killswitch butchered into the stator wiring. It was a MESS!!!!!!!! Anyway, we got it cleaned up enough to get spark and managed to get it started. Needs a tune up and carb cleaning, but it's smokin. So it's a no go for me. Not worth my time. It also has a faint noise I can't place without my stethascope, but have a feeling it's piston slap. Looks like the wardog will be getting some ergo updates.

cool! long live the 88
she's not gonna let you get rid of her that easy Gen lol
keep us updated on the progress with the modding your gonna do with the pegs and **** man

I'll do my best. She does run fuggin awesome! Would like to put her up against another similarly modded warrior, cause honestly I think she'd force her **** down their throat. Lol. Am going to be puttin the 39mm FCR I got from 00' WO YA! on here soon. Will prob continue with the stroker come the fall. Gotta get the suspension **** delt with 1st.
