Alright, I could use some hints or ideas from any of you other edelbrock carb owners that ride in cold weather.
So, as we know, the edelbrock does not have a choke or enrichener. (anybody know why edelbrock would even think about making a carb for an atv without a choke?!?) But anyways, with this cold weather I find that my warrior is a total bitch to start. TOTAL. I'll probably have my starter killed by the end of winter at this rate.
The only way I can get mine started in this cold weather is to richen up the low speed mix a few clicks, and then pump the throttle a couple times, hit the starter, and it'll run for a sec or 2 and then shut off when it burns the fuel the accel pump shoots in. Then pump the throttle a couple more times, start it, it shuts off when the rich fuel burns. Repeat this process about 8 more times, usually with some swearing and kicking involved, and if my battery isn't dead by then it finally gets to the point that it tries to idle on it's own. Then about every 2 minutes of riding for 10 minutes I have to stop and gradually lean the low speed circuit back out until it's running like it's supposed to and fully warmed up. Then of course if I go inside to warm up for a while, then I come back out and the engine is cold and I gotta start the same **** all over again.
Now, I don't remember it being this tempermental last year, I actually started it at Paragon after a night camping, when we woke up it was 12 degrees and the case of beer I was sleeping next to was actaully frozen. So **** was damn cold. And of course I was riding in water the day before, so my throttle cable froze up. My battery was also to the point that it could barely turn the motor over. Yet somehow I managed to start it, with dead battery and no throttle.
Now what the hell could be wrong with it, (or me) that I can't get this thing to start for **** this winter? It's not colder or anything, and nothing major has changed since then either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated here, i'm 'bout ready to ditch this carb and get something with a real choke on it.
