Alright, I could use some hints or ideas from any of you other edelbrock carb owners that ride in cold weather.

So, as we know, the edelbrock does not have a choke or enrichener. (anybody know why edelbrock would even think about making a carb for an atv without a choke?!?) But anyways, with this cold weather I find that my warrior is a total bitch to start. TOTAL. I'll probably have my starter killed by the end of winter at this rate.

The only way I can get mine started in this cold weather is to richen up the low speed mix a few clicks, and then pump the throttle a couple times, hit the starter, and it'll run for a sec or 2 and then shut off when it burns the fuel the accel pump shoots in. Then pump the throttle a couple more times, start it, it shuts off when the rich fuel burns. Repeat this process about 8 more times, usually with some swearing and kicking involved, and if my battery isn't dead by then it finally gets to the point that it tries to idle on it's own. Then about every 2 minutes of riding for 10 minutes I have to stop and gradually lean the low speed circuit back out until it's running like it's supposed to and fully warmed up. Then of course if I go inside to warm up for a while, then I come back out and the engine is cold and I gotta start the same **** all over again.

Now, I don't remember it being this tempermental last year, I actually started it at Paragon after a night camping, when we woke up it was 12 degrees and the case of beer I was sleeping next to was actaully frozen. So **** was damn cold. And of course I was riding in water the day before, so my throttle cable froze up. My battery was also to the point that it could barely turn the motor over. Yet somehow I managed to start it, with dead battery and no throttle.

Now what the hell could be wrong with it, (or me) that I can't get this thing to start for **** this winter? It's not colder or anything, and nothing major has changed since then either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated here, i'm 'bout ready to ditch this carb and get something with a real choke on it.

Is it possible that there is dirt effecting that low speed part of the carb that effects the mixture at low throttle settings? Like the air jet on a normal carb at the throat of the carb.
I'll have to read more into this carb.

Dirt was the only thing I could think of, but I don't know how anything could have got in there. I'm running a fuel filter, and the last time I had this carb apart, probably 6 months ago, it didn't have a speck of dirt in it.

I don't have any other ideas though. I just don't feel like taking the think apart right now, it's just too cold outside and working on the carb inside will make the whole house smell like gas for 2 days.

Just a couple things I would check are the vent hoses on the carb as it seems that if they were plugged maybe cause a lean condtion when the engine is trying to pull fuel from the bowl.
Also maybe the gas cap check. Another Idea I had was the float level was to low.
All these ideas I had seem like they would effect driving all the time and not just when cold out or I should say as the engine is warming up. I hate to say it but these may just be the design of the carb.

Mines the exact same way. I just give it a few flicks and apply a slight amount of gas once it fires.. usually i can get it in 2-3 tries.

mine does the same exact thing and i cant figure it out, i think im going to pull it out and take a look at it and clean everything really good ill let you know how it works

Doesnt matter how much you clean it.... its not going to change the fact that edelbrock didnt put the enricher on the warrior carbs.... Not that it really needs it. It takes a while but ive never had to crank it so much my battery went dead.

well i can deal with the fact that its difficult to start its just the freezing cable and the fact that every time i hit the gas it bogs down and if i punp the throttle it backfires and pops
