I just recently rebuilt the top end on my 2004 Wolverine. I went with the 85mm 10.75:1 JE piston from ALBA, Web 88 grind, Kibblewhite springs, and Cometic gaskets. This was to go along with an HMF exhaust and K&N intake setup. I was having some issues with my stock carb slide which has lead me to purchasing a new slide aswell as an edelbrock carb. I was thinking the edel would complement my other upgrades but after talking to some folks they said i would be better off with my stock cam for lowend power and would actualy lose power on the bottom end with the Edelbrock but gain more on the topend. Now if this is true how much are we talking about losing on the bottom end vs stock. How much do i stand to gain on the top? Does this carb raise my top speed any. I should mention that I do have 25" Mudlites so I need all of the lowend power I can get.

I felt like the Edelbrock gave mine a power boost all through the range. I sure couldn't feel any bottom end loss, the bottom end actually felt a lot better to me. I think it felt more powerful in the bottom end, partially because the edelbrock makes the power so much more responsive, but i feel aside from that it still made a little better bottom-end power than the stock one.

How difficult are the edelbrock carbs to get tuned in? Will the edelbrock help gain any power on the topend? The wolverine is a beast on the trail I dominate all of my buddies on their ranchers ect so I dont want to take any thing away from the trailability.

The edelbrock carbs are very easy to tune. It's not set up like a conventional carb. The idle-1/3 throttle mix is controlled by a knob on the top of the carb that changes the needle height. The 1/3-full throttle mix is controlled by swapping out for a different needle, and the kit usually comes with 3 needles.

I thought that the edelbrock gave me gains all through the powerband, and it's definitely not going to take away from the "trailability" at all, when it's tuned right it'll make it so much better for the technical trails because the throttle response can be made so sharp it's unbelievable with the adjustable accelerator pump.

Awesome! I bought the carb off of ebay for $150.00 it looks to be in near perfect condition it came off of a 04 warrior so the jetting should already be pretty close right?

With this carb and the upgrades that I already mentioned how much HP do you think I have? Oh almost forgot to go along with the other upgrades I had the head ported and polished. Is there any thing else that can be done to get more power beside stroking it?

The jetting shouldn't be too far off, i'm sure you will have to do some tuning though to get it dialed in with your mods. I beleive the carb comes with 16e, 18e, and 20e jets. My guess, based on my experience, you'll probably end up running the 20e in the cold weather and then the 18e when it warms up. That's how it worked out with my warrior anyways, and my mods weren't radically different than yours.

That's probably about as much as you can get out of it without stroking it and still keeping a good trail machine. Sounds like it should be a good reliable setup for ya.

With the edelbrock and the mods you listed your probably in the range of 29 to 32 HP. Thats about all your gonna get unless you swap to a 12:1 piston, but that requires some race gas mixxing, and will only add about 2 more HP. The HotRods 396 kit will add about 6 to 8 more HP.

What rpm range does this carb produce the most noticable power? I thought about the 12:1 but I didnot want to use race fuel. On a side note a friend of mine has a 01 warrior with a 12:1 std bore piston and he uses 93 but adds some NOS octane booster that has nitro methane in it and he never has any problems he also has the ".450 mega cycle cam is that normal?

In talking with Pam at Powroll she told me that the stock cam would be better for my setup for lowend power over the 88 grind. She said that I would actually feel more power through out the powerband with the stock cam. Well this is the 1st i have ever heard of this Is this true any why? What would be the best setup for the most power using the edelbrock carb and either the Webb 88 or Stock cam?

The web 88 is more of a mid range cam but still will take away a touch of bottom end power. The stock cam has all its power in the lower end. I would say that cams are easy enough to swap out but you will love the mid range hit of the 88 grind and all around power gain. It won't make as much power as say the .430 or .450" lift grinds but they also lack the torque and bottom end and over all power of the 88 grind.

So considering the fact that I have larger tires (25" mudlites) that I would feel more power and be more satisfied with edelbrock and the 88 grind vs the edelbrock and stock cam?

Well I put the edel brock carb on today and got it tuned it perfect didnt take very long either. All I can say is WOW!!!! Tons of lowend power and throttle response I can wheelie in 2nd and hit 59mph via garmin gps!!!! The best part is I havent even broke the engine in yet so it should loosen up a bit. I cant imagine having a 446 stroker in this thing I can barley keep the front wheels on the ground as it is! Thanks for all of the help
