I bought a new elec starter off of ebay a few weeks ago, and when I went to put it on the wires were not the same. I didn't think to look before I bought it cause it looked the same. I don't know why it would be like this cause he said it was old new stock for a yamaha warrior. heres some pics..

would this fit other warriors? anyone interested in buying it?

nope. he just said it was old new stock and it will fit a warrior 350 or 250r (which is wrong cause the 250 is kick)

I was thinking the electrical would be the same for all years. Think thats the problem? can someone check their warrior and tell me if this would hook up to yours?

the wiring harness is most likely different between some year models, you should have asked if it would work on an '02 model year.

big clue the guy dosen't know what the **** hes talkin about, definately stay away from a seller like that next time.

yes I know, it was the first time I ever got anything from Ebay. It looked the same so I thought it would fit. but now I have to think of what i'm going to do with it

are the wires the same? maybe if they have the same number of wires you could splice them to the old connectors? I am not very sure on the wiring of it, but if they have the same wires and just different connectors I would splice the old connection onto the switches you bought, atleast for a temporary thing.

yes, I was telling my dad to do this but he doesn't really want to. Maybe I can convince him to do it science hes on vaca..

just do it yourself, its not difficult, just remember to solder the wires or use crimp connectors with shrink tube over them.

Alright after some research i found that they changed the connectors after 95.. so you have an older one.

Whats wrong with your stock one.... as of right now my start button doesnt work so if yours works maybe ill buy your old one off you for the start button piece.

thank you so much for helping me out!

well the guy that I bought it off of flipped the quad. he replaced the handlebars but the electric start thing got messed up a bit. the grey switch (lights) is chipped off a bit at the top. The wires might be a bit messed up too but it still works. If you don't have the red switch in the right spot, when your zooming down the field, it could just cut out. so you probly don't want it. but it DOES work. It's not a problem when you have the switch in the right place. I just want to get a new one so I don't have to deal with it and then if I go to sell it people won't be turned away by that thing.

wow, I told my dad to see if we can sodder the wires but they think its too much work. gees, if he would tell me how to do it, I'd fix the damn thing myself. It's worth it! we got it for 39 bucks and a brand new one costs $162.

Hmm well all i need is the button itself (it can be removed from the black housing completely) So let me know if you wanna part with it.

too much work ::)

tell him to come and spend some quality time with with his son and get him to show you how to do it. It could be a father - son bonding time ;)

LOL thats lame! After talking to my dad more, he told me the wires from the original one has 2 blue and the one i got from ebay has 2 black or something like that. so we might have to put it on ebay or something cause the wires arent even the same.

the wire COLORS aren't the same, all the internals are still going to be the same. You'll just have to split them open and trace where each wire goes. They both do have the same # of wires, right?

ditto

yea, split it open, trace the wires, and personally i would just butcher the ends off and swap them out, you don't even need to solder, just some electrical tape and twisting them would do (of course making sure none of the open ends touch other wires and are taped water tight) or you could even shrink wrap them (cost like 5.00 from hardware store, heat them up and they shrink, look like little black tubes)

Nah you can't just twist the wires and tape something like that if you want it to last. Either solder the wires and shrinkwrap it, or get butt connectors and crimp them together. Twisting wires together and electrical taping them should only be a temporary job for anything. Twisting the wires doesn't hold up, and neither does electrical tape.
