Well I was out riding today and I slowed down and the warrior just died. I didn't notice it smoking before it died mostly because we were riding through water alot so the smoke just blended in with the steam. I did smell something every now and then but didn't think anything of it. So under the hood where most of the wires are there are some melted wires im not sure what they go to yet, but i will find out. The wires that are melted are red and I think the other is black i cant tell because there is no wire coating over the mostly melted wire is just bare wire. and im not sure but the red wire may have melted just because the other wire that melted was right next to it.

Ya thats what i though but what exactly causes a short? How can i fix it? Would a bad ground cause it to short out?

Well I just now got done digging into the warrior and at least one wire is melted all the way from the start to the end of the wire. And I think this might have something to do with it, when I got the warrior back to the shop I noticed that the start button was pushed in, I took that all apart and the whole button was messed up.

A short is a short, no other way to describe it, wires touching other wires or grounds when they shouldn't be touching. The red and black wires under the hood are probably going to your key switch.

Is there a fuse installed? Is it the right size? If the right size fuse is installed it should have blown before anything could get hot enough to melt like that.

Ya.. well ive started tearing it apart and here are some pics i took i think there are two things that went wrong since there are melted wires coming from these, they are the first two pictures. One of them is the voltage regulator and im not sure what the other thing is called, but here are some pics. The pics are not very good I tried to do the best i could.

Well i got my parts this morning, but some of the connections are wrong... the guy said it was off a 1998 and i have a 2000 so it should work right? Is there any way to make it work? Thanks

If your stuff really is 2000 and the parts you got were really 98 then they should work, my first guess is that he really didn't know what he was selling.

What parts exactly did you order? Just the regulator or did you get a whole harness?

I had to have the whole wiring harness, voltage regulator, and the light switch kill switch start button assembly the goes on the left side of the handle bars. I have figured out that the wiring harness he shipped me is off of a 1996 and the voltage regulator and light switch assembly are both off a 1998

did you get the stuff off of ebay, cause ive noticed that half of those guys have no idea that there were changes in the electrical system. they usaully buy a quad strip it down and say all the parts will fit all warriors and raptors. i sit and laugh at the people that have no clue what they are selling.

I laugh at them jackasses to, but he said it was off a 1998 and i knew that if it really was it would work for me but that guy is a DIPSHIT!!

anything electrical i buy i ask for pics, of like in your case of the whole harness, of specific connectors that i know are different. **** we got what was labeled and looked like a rear caliper for my dads goldwing, low and behold it arrives its a front caliper. that just proved to me how stupid some of them guys are.

Well i contacted him and he said that he will refund my money for the wiring harness, I am going to keep the voltage regulator and light switch.
