So I had torn down the left side cover to get to the starter clutch and put on a cam chain. Took the starter clutch off and put it back together and it locked like its supposed to. It cranked it 2 times, about 4 hours apart, and then went back to doing the same thing, not locking. Anybody else had this scenario? I was hoping I had saved at least $100 or so, but apparently not. The teeth are the only thing that needs replacing I guess, but they want to charge an arm and a leg for the whole assembly.

go on ebay, you can buy a used alternator with starter clutch for 25-50 bucks, or you can go liek me and just do a pull starter and never worry about batterys stators or starters/clutchs

i would not suggest buying a used starter clutch... all your going to be doing is buying someone elses junk

How are you supposed to get the torx bolts out of the stator rotor to get the starter clutch off? an impact? I just am flustrated since I just put it all back together only to have the same problem.

yeah those bolts are tight as hell and probably peen'ed in... we have this tool that is like a steel screwdriver that is meant to be slammed with a hammer... it takes 3/5" drive torx bits (or whatever you want) it worked pretty good from what i remember.. only had a problem with one... you could also try some heat but be careful i think that flywheel has plastic and or glue holding the magnents in

Yeah, that would be correct Bomber, they are peen'ed in on the backside. The main objective here is to not damage the flywheel like you were saying.
