also, any possibility of us seeing pics of a burn out in that thing? lol

Eh, the rear tires are brand new. The front ones have some miles on them and are different brands, so when i'm ready to replace them a few vids might pop up. ;)

right on. cant you just put the front wheels/tires on the rear to burn them and then replace them? just a thought. when i have to replace my tires ill try to do a nice burnout. the 5.3L (327) v8 in my truck should provide a nice burnout. tires are just too expensive for me to do one right now. thats good that it it came with some good rear tires. not a bad deal

That's what I meant. I'm going to wait until the tires get worn down more, and I have some extra change to pay for new ones. They probably have at least 10,000 miles left in them. She will powerbrake without much trouble though (I had to try at least once, know what I mean?)

Does anyone know if these TBI engines have a mass airflow sensor? I wanted to get a chrome edelbrock air filter and cover, but that would eliminate the intake tube that goes to the front of the engine compartment by the radiator. I didn't see anything that resembled a MAF sensor, but I want to make sure before I spend the money and find out that it makes the engine run shitty.

If theres nothing there that ressembles a Mass air.............its not there.
Make sure there isnt any type of sensors at all in the ducting...........

There usually very noticable ,so I wouldnt worry.
Its probabbly a speed dentsity system.

If ya have any doubt ............pull it off and start it up...........DONT DRIVE IT!!! ;)

Then go buy that shiny new air cleaner!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

are you talking about putting an air cleaner on top of the motor? kinda like an old carburated car? if so, im not sure if it would fit under the hood or do any good.

Yeah, exactly. The TBI already has a setup similar to that with a ring shaped filter on top of the engine, but instead of an open element, it's enclosed and it has ducting running down next to the driver side headlight. I was browsing Advance Auto's website, and K&N makes a filter like i'm talking about specifically for this truck, so now i'm sure there isn't any sensors. I'll try to get some pictures of the stock setup tomorrow. The K&N setup specifically for this truck is $120 which seems crazy, so i'm going to take a look at one of the air cleaners for a 350 and see how much of a difference there is.

right on. well the k&n is reusable (as you probably already know) so it might save you some money over the lifetime of the truck, but $120 is pretty high.

Ok, here's a pic of the engine so you can see the air cleaner that's on it now. I discovered that the lid can be reversed so that air gets pulled in all the way around the filter instead of getting pulled through the little tube. I ran it like that today and it works fine, and has a cool roar when I jump on the gas hard.

I also figured i'd post up a few quick pics of the sound system. A 200 watt amp might not seem like much, but when it's pushing a 20 pound subwoofer about 3 feet from your head it's plenty loud.

damn only 200 watts? i have a 12 that takes over 3 times that much RMS! thinking i might sell it though and put more money on the warrior, unless i can find an amp that will push it for fairly cheap. looks good though. i need to get a system set up in my truck. keep her goin!

yeah, 200 sounds a little small, a buddy of mine put a 12 in the back of his ranger a while back... it was rough... we had to make a custom box for the air compression.

nice truck though, looks real clean.

The bad thing about flipping your air cleaner lid is that the engine will be pulling in hot air from off of the engine. By running it through the air intake housing it pulls the air from in front, outside the engine compartment, of the truck resulting in much cooler air.

Cold air = more density = more power

I did find just the K&N filter for your truck for $30 and free shipping from AJUSA.com.

Those motors and trannys are unstoppable. My family has always had that setup (astro, then sierra, now blazer) and never any trouble at all. I hear with an aftermarket air filter setup you can get an extra 50 miles or so on a tank.

I don't know what it is about this sub/amp combination, but it seems louder than the 2 JL's on the kicker 800 watt amp in my cousin's f150. I guess it's partially because i'm using a competition sub, because it doen't take much at all to push this thing. I really wasn't out to make a system that people hear a mile away anyways, I just wanted good bass without any noise or distortion so this works perfect for me. I ran this same amp, sub, and box in my escort for 3 years and I love it, if the amp or sub ever needs replaced I'll probably buy the exact same thing again.

hey YamaRider
its me hillclimber nice truck.if i were you i would put 20inch spiners and have the quad in the back, maybe even add hydralics.LOL j/k!!

that **** in your cousin's truck should pound, maybe compression or something isn't balanced? I dunno, not really the best authority on that. But that's kool that your not over the top ya know? I remember being in high school and some kids would just go out buy the biggest sub and amp they could and stick them in the back of some broke dick cavalier or corolla or whatever and all you would hear is the hatteling of the truck... nasty... gotta have that dyno mat ;) but that's tight, just enough to feel the bass, but not to much so make your **** all rattelly.

hey now, i used to have a cavalier! lol it was a 98 cavalier z24 though, so it was pretty pimp. at one time i had 2 15s in it and it thumped pretty well. it did rattle a little, but at least it wasnt a piece. now the plastic panel beneath my rear window in my cab rattles. its not because of a sub, its because my exhaust is cut off after the muffler (3 inch exhaust). its sounds great, but i gotta fix the rattle before it drives me insane!

If you are any good with a cutting wheel/dremel, and a welder you could probably cut out a second hole on the filter cover and get anotehr port that goes into it and make it have 2 ports comming into the filter cover. just drop the other side of the intake down the passenger side so you would get more cool air.

Cold air = more density = more power.

with the 2nd intake port and tube on the cover you should be able to pull much more air in. Unless you go with the whole functional cowl scoop hood. Tough to find and a bit pricey, but if your going to buy a cowl scoop hood, why not get the functional one. I never understood why people buy the aesthetic one that doesn't do a damn thing when there is a working one available. (I know you didn't mention buying one, but you could then get the K&N, and the open element, well the top would be open, with a rubber boot to mate to the hood)

Haha in high school I was helping one of my buddies install a mean system in his car. Just the 2 subs and amp cost easily 4 times what he paid for the car. The car was an 84 impala, with more rust holes, missing paint, and duct tape than you could shake a stick at. Well, we went big and put 2 Kicker Solo Baric 15's in it, on 2 800 watt Kicker amps. By the time the car finally bit the big one there was barely any rust or duct tape left on it, most of it got knocked loose by the bass. On more than one occasion the trunk latch's bolts rattled loose from the constant pressure on the trunk, and the damn thing would fly open at random.

But then he got a 88 toyota 4 runner. Not much better shape, you could sit in the rear seat, and if you'd look through the slot where the seatbelt reel is you could see the road. The bass actually knocked one of the rear side windows out of that. Eventually he sold everything because he knew it was bound to get stolen, because when you have a system that loud everybody knows it.

I can't figure out why the system in my cousin's truck doesn't sound better. Against my suggestions, he had it custom installed by Tweeter, with custom boxes matched to the speaker specs, so I don't know what really could be wrong. I was thinking that maybe his head unit just had a low preout volume, but I ran an RCA from my car to his sub and it was still weak.

Got my rear Audiobahns installed. They barely fit in there, I had to do a little grinding, but they look and sound pretty good, especially compared to the stockers.

Also got the Edelbrock air cleaner installed. Got one at Advance Auto for $30 (designed for carburetors), and it was almost a direct bolt on. All I needed was a longer spacer between the throttle body and air cleaner for it to work, so it would clear the plug wires at the distributor. A quick poke around the junkyard, and I found just what I needed. The spacer off a chevy astro van was about an inch taller than my noma's, which was perfect. So total cost was only like $35.
