I have a new 450 Wolverine and I'm slowly getting my mods done on it. I got an e mail from Avon cycle (E bay front and rear racks) that supposedly UPS has lost my racks in the mail (dang) but on to other topics.

I ordered the Fix Powersports clutch kit from E bay for my Wolverine. It was delivered quickly and looked pretty easy to install. I opened up the clutches and man, these are not the snowmobile clutches I'm used to! It's almost scary in there with engine oil dripping out around the crank etc. I got the 5 springs changed and added a couple washers under the primary clutch cap per the instructions. I haven't done the carb portion of the kit yet but I wanted to see the difference with the clutch kit only installed.

First impression was "this thing needs to shift"! The ATV now is pulling a lot more RPMs just about everywhere. It also seems to run out of gears a little earlier. I was pulling about 49 mph before the kit and now it's about 46-47 mph but I guess it must be getting there sooner? The ATV seems to be spinning everywhere. I can't seem to hook up on gravel at all.
I guess I'll do the carb portion of the kit and see if I get my top end back. It's basically a different (I assume larger) pilot jet and that won't help the top end and a thin .5 mm washer that fits under (raises) the needle 1/2 click for better mid range. I also plan to add a dial a jet kit just because I have a couple extra kits.
I'm going to see if I can help them improve their instructions as well. There are several surprises in the mod that don't need to be there and their sequence needs some tweaking.

Right now if I had to do it over again I think I'd pass.

The epi clutch kit was very well laid out and had pretty easy to follow instructions.

That sucks your not happy with the kit, well how is the low end to mid range? did messing around with the carb help at all?

I probably shouldn't be that hard on them just yet but I guess I knew what I was looking for with the kit, and this wasn't it.

In the winter I do snowmobile clutch testing for Dale at Dalton Industries so I'm pretty sure I know what I should expect, but this is a 450cc engine not the 1000cc sleds I typically deal with.

I did read where the EPI kit also steals a couple miles per hour from the top end as well but from what I have read guys have been able to get them back with jetting, air filters and aftermarket pipes.

I didn't buy the Wolverine to really compete but I've got a couple loud mouth buddies with a Suzuki Vinson 500 and a Polaris Sportsman 500. They say their ATVs go over 60 mph (my B.S. meter is registering since the 660 Grizzly I rode only went 62 mph). I guess if I can get into the low 50's I'll be relatively happy.

Well frostbite, I dont know what you weigh but my wolvy does about 52-53 with the clutch kit, pipe, filter and jet kit. It did about 52 stock and I weigh about 200lbs. I dont think that the wolverine will ever get much above 55 because of the gearing ratio.

I weigh just under 170 mph so 53 should be achieveable. I talked to Fix Powersports today and they were kind enough to allow me to rewrite their clutch kit instructions. Then it was mentioned to me that for even harder acceleration I can order new "rollers" (the black circular items under the clutch cover) that are smaller and thus give a bit harder acceleration. They are pretty cheap $39.99 for all of them (8 I think) so I may give them a whirl.
Also I was nearly convinced to day to buy the HMF sport pipe with the quietcore Vs. the GYT pipe. I figure I can use the quietcore during hunting season and remove it during the summer. The HMF pipe isalso cheaper at $227 vs. $299 for the GYT. Is this the right move? I plan to order the K&N very shortly.
I ordered something called a "direct hit" (spark enhancer) for the Wolverine too. I have them on my TTR and my BMW with great luck and they are only $29.00 for one. Google "direct hits" and you'll see what I mean. Hey, every little bit helps.

Fitch fuel catalyst
Energy release
K&N filer
After market pipe
clutch kit
direct hits

Hey, does K&N make a breathable airbox lid for the wolverine (or some other Yamaha ATV with the same airbox)?

The EPI clutch kit also has the new rollers as well as the big spring for the secondary clutch.

The HMF pipe is cheaper, There is a sound byte on youtube.com of the GYTR pipe and the HMF pipe so that you can compare them.

If you see an improvement from the spark enhancer let us know and I would be interested in seeing how they work.

As far as I know at the moment K&N does not offer the breathable airbox lid for the wolverine.
