dudes. My motor is out on the work bench (just got it together). if you put it in any gear, am i supposted to be able to turn the sproket?

If i put it into a gear i cant move the sprocket (hand or wrench).
This may be a dumb question but im about to just through the whole bike in the dumpster.

I was gonna put it in the frame and try to start it, but i thought i better double check things and noticed this.

Is something wrong or are you not supposed to be able to turn the sprocket while in gear?

yes it should feel like it is locked up. You can try spinning the flywheel and putting in different gears to see the sprocket slowly turning.

If you have it in gear it should lock up. But there should be some free play.

If you can pull back the tab that the clutch cable connects to with a good pair of vise grips then the sprocket should def spin. If its not giving any budge while in gear if with the clutch disengaged then something might not be kosher.

Hecks yeah its should be hard to turn. Its in freain gear and your trying to rotate it it by hand. You should be worried if it was the other way around.

thanks dudes. i just wanted a second opinion. didnt wanna fire it up, kick it in gear, and have a large piece of scrap aluminum. leaning as i go.....

Im bought to have the frame and aarms and swing arm painted and didnt want to waste time and money on that when the motor is jacked up.
Thanks again

yeah you can actually turn the sprocket when it is in gear you just gotta be the hulk... think about the stuff you are moving by trying to turn the tiny gear.... you turning th whole motor... the whole way to the valves in the topend.... i know im getting to this party late but figured i would chime in anyways
