Are you talking about the one way bearing? If so I checked that when I took the starter off and it seems to roll very smooth and isn't loose at all. Would a bad starter make a noise like that? I've only worked on car starters and never heard one make noise like this
You have to pull the magneto to check it properly.
What happens is, overtime the bearing chews at the flywheel. This creates play between the mating surface on the flywheel, and the fingers in the bearing.
So when you engage it, it slaps against the flywheel.. It skips, grinds, and makes a ringing/pinging noise.
Eventually it'll fail, and just spin on the flywheel, and the motor won't turn over.

Hmmmm ok. Ill have to look into if further. I don't really want to take it down that far right now.

I have 2 Warriors and both sound like their falling apart when you hit the starter. Atleast compared to my Rav4. They both start and run great. I've seen the same thing in 2 other Warriors. Seems to be the nature of the beast.

now i got a question would it keep the quad from even starting because when we was crankin on it it started up for just a second or two and then shut off. i aint much of a mechanic so idk nothin about it.

I dunno man?
Like we were say'n earlier, we would have to hear it in a video to make a decent diagnosis.

well sense its already at the shop i'm going to just let him look at it first thing in the morning i'll call him and tell him to look at what you guys were saying first because i think he was wanting to take the motor apart and look so i'll just pay him the 45 and let him tell me what he finds and it might be cheaper if i can just tell him to look at the starter clutch and then it will take less time which means cheaper for me. lol

if it went out of time then most likely you broke a flywheel key and its possible that you may have bent a valve when that happened

That might be it because when we was trying to start it a guy said that sounds like a bent valve but it has compression we checked that

the Stator is the heart of the machine
it charges the battery, sends power to the cdi and tells the cdi when to send power to the coil to send spark to ignite the fuel and runs the headlights and tail light

if it has compression the key can't be sheared it's gotta be turning over to have compression 88
and he said it has compression

lol it can still make compression with a bent key but the sheared key will still let the flywheel turn the crank but it just won't be in time

You know I forgot to tell you guys but the michanic said to twist off the end of the plug wire and turn it over and stick it on somewhere metal on the quad to see if it sparks and we did I didn't see it getting any spark. But when you turn it over it sounds tarrible

no you should pull the plug and then put the wire back on it then touch it to part of the quad to see if you het spark.
