Hey guys, I have a quick question. On this warrior I am looking at buying, it has 2 ply holeshot MXR tires. The thing is, is that I do a lot of trail riding, with some rocks and roots and logs in the trails. Can anyone tell me how quick these may break, or puncture? Should I buy different tires for it?

2 plys won't last very long if you ride rocky trails, it doesn't take much to puncture or cut one. And if those are mx tires they're going to be 18's, which suck for trails anways. No ground clearance and too easy to knock them off the bead.

Which is weird because these on this quad look like they're bigger than 18''s to me, maybe it's just me though. What do you think?

It depends entirely on the manufacturer, and how well its made.

Not all 2 ply's are equal.

Like a Maxxis All-Trak, 2 ply tire... can take an amazing amount of abuse in all conditions.

On the other hand... something like a Duro knock-off tire would probably puncture if you looked at it wrong.

Yeah, they're holeshots, I am just wondering if I should buy new tires ahead of time and have a backup, or if they will last a little while before I need new tires.

I don't think those are holeshot mxr's, they're definitely not 18's. If i had to guess i'd say those are 20 or even 22" holeshot xcr's, which are only available in 4 and 6 plys.

What is your source of info that those are only 2 plys? Because i doubt that they are.

Exactly what I was thinking. The person that said that they were 2 plys is the person that I am/might buy from. This is what he said "They are 2 ply MXR tires like new." So I was planning on getting a new pair of tires if they were 2 plys as a backup, but if they aren't two's then I don't want to waste my money right now..

let me know..

I wouldn't worry about them too much. 2 plys aren't that horrible unless you ride in really rocky conditions (I ride abandoned coal mines and rocky mountainous areas so i am harder than most are on tires). I wouldn't figure on getting new tires right away. Just ride it as-is, and see how they hold up. They may be fine for the type of riding you do, regardless of if they're 2 or 4 ply. Just keep a tire plug kit on hand (5 bucks at any store) and patch them up if they would get a puncture. If it gets to be a problem then i'd think about getting new ones, but i don't see a reason to buy new ones before you're sure these won't work for you.

Has anyone ever tried out those Slime Repair Strings? I am wondering if those are better than the slime patches?

I never used any of the slime stuff. I just go to the auto parts store or walmart and get the cheap tar plug kits. I've never had one leak once installed properly. Why spend more on something else when the cheap stuff works great?

Yea that slime stuff is crap, especially the stuff you inject into the tire and inflate. It leaves this really nasty **** all over the inside of the wheel which takes forever to scrape off.
