Before I go setting the motor in the quad I decided to look to see if they were smart enough rejet it, since it had a uni and a homemade pipe. Well I open the bowl up and to my surprise I look at the main jet and I see this:

Well that isnt obviously a manufactured jet, so I dug out my drill bits and tested how big it was drilled. 3/32. How big is that in jet size? I wont be using that jet of course.

Ya thats what I thought when I first saw it, either they were really compensating for the homemade pipe or theres something big done to that motor. Im thinking the pipe, but Im gonna do a little investigating.

If you crank it with that jet in it it ort to create around 2lbs of exhaust boost and blow flames at idle! Lol turn th choke on and it would sound like a after burner lol

After finding that Im really starting to wonder if I should rebiuld the top end. Thats a whole lot of fuel to be pumping in.

wow.. thats a turbo jet!! i bet the header glows very nice w that!!

mmmmm did they say it ran good with it? did you run it? everyone has their own opinion about what good is... i wouldnt go ripping the top end apart unless you have to... i mean maybe they put a cam in it but if they are making homemade pipes then they probably arent spending money on cams... i would put something in it that seems like it should be right and try it... maybe like size or 2 up from stock... you really shouldnt need anything bigger

its not 2 stroke, isnt not like it will blow up in 20 feet if you dont get the jet right the first time

The guy I got it from bought it as a project not running. Once I got it home, I took my multimeter out and tested the stator wires and guess what..... Pickup coils test so far out of whack that it aint funny. Now whats funny about you saying not to tear into it unless I have to is, Ive been looking for a reason to "hop" the motor up a bit. That carb probably aint even gonna be going on it. Iowawarrior still had the carb that was on the yellow when I got it and it has a 150 jet already.

maybe use the carb that came with the yellow roller, put your statorand flywheel on from the other 98 and see if it runs ok

Already got a line on a stator and flywheel and puller. Did pull the covers on the head and it looks really good for a motor thats 24 years old. Might have discovered another reason why quit running on them, Im gonna check it agian when I got more time. But it looks like the timing is 180 off, so either they had the cam gear off and didnt put it on right or the woodruff key broke. I guess I'll figure out for sure when I switch out the flywheel.
