So I was play'n around with my 490 today, and thought I would get it running.
I checked over everything really well, and then went threw my starting procedure.
After a few kicks it backfired, and now I have no spark??? I tried a new plug, and still nothing. So I checked the stator, and I have good voltage from there... I was gonna try my other coil, but how could a backfire kill the coil? This one really has me scratch'n my head.

sounds l8ike you sheared a flywheel key to me lol
Nope. It's good, that was the main reason I pulled the mag. I kinda figured thats what it was to? I checked the timing, and it's spot on. Swapped out my spare coil, and still nothing. All my plugs are at my neighbors, and he get's home at 7:00.
This motor is hard on plugs though.. I hope it's just a coincidence, and I grabbed a dead plug. I think the back fire killed the only b8 I had. This motor doesn't like the cooler plugs, it literally eats the electrodes right off of them..

did you check the reeds because this has happend to me before and I snapped a reed off lol and they where carbon fiber reeds

How could a reed peddle kill the spark??
I would check but I doubt thats what it is, my intake is sealed up really nice right now.. I would hate to take it apart.

oh crap lol forgot that you lost spark. No that would cause a loss in spark
I just tried my spare plug on the Scramby, and yah.. It's toast.
I can't figure out why it loads up on me when I try to start it cold? But it really let a wicked bark out of it today.
I have to kick it over about 5 times at half throttle with the kill switch on. That clears it's throat, and it usually fires right up..
Not today though. But it is about half cold out. That may have played a roll in this crap.

I would still like to figure out why it loads up when it's cold? This isn't the first time it did that. The last time it snapped my kicker shaft.

is your float stuck or maybe your choke isnt disengaging all of the way
I have fought with these stupid floats a lot. But I have to choke it cold, or it won't fire. I know it disengages all the way though..
But it could be the floats, gawd I hate that old carb.

So your saying the problem is you need to get a better carb for the 490? Lol!

is it the original carb ?
Yah. It's a Mikuni VM 38mm round slide.
I think it's the worst carb mikuni ever built..

If I had the money to buy a new one I would run this bitch over with my truck! Then melt it down, and bury it.
That way it could never curse anyone again.. lol
