So i just got my warrior back from a guy that rebuilt it for me and got a couple of questions for you warrior guys. I really dont know much about quads just the basics to get me by so.

1. when the engine is on it sounds like there is ticking or something...is that normal?

2. No smoke, there is just a little but that is the oil that was left inside the exhaust prior to the rebuild.

3. When i apply the back breaks, there is a loud grinding sound...is that the rotor and pads? i doubt the have been changed anything lately.

4. The front left wheel wobbles when driven? any ideas?

5. The cap for the front break fluid screw is beyond stripped it is completely rounded out. is there a way to get the screw out without buying a new break system?

6. When idling, (sometimes) the engine will act like it stopped getting fuel for a split second and act like its gonna stop running but idles back up by itself?

7. I always have to choke it to start it on a cold start. Never when its warm. Is that a problem?

Its a 2001 i believe, any help answering any of the questions is appreciated. Im new to this stuff but trying to learn. Thanks everyone.

well i didnt have the money for a really full rebuild just something to get me by. He just worked on the motor. It was horrific condition when i got the motor so he had to rebuild the engine from 2 different engines that werent in the greatest shape at all. I didnt get a new timing chain or any of that stuff is that why? but ya he just worked on the motor and he did it for real cheap. The thing runs really good now was just wondering if the ticking or whatever is bad or if i can let it go. The pistion was like bored .50 over or whatever. If that matters. But yea

1. when the engine is on it sounds like there is ticking or something...is that normal?

depends on how loud it is.. it does not take much to pop off the covers and check your valve clearance to be sure it is within spec... but yes these motors seem to have some audible tick..

2. No smoke, there is just a little but that is the oil that was left inside the exhaust prior to the rebuild.

no smoke.. no worries..

3. When i apply the back breaks, there is a loud grinding sound...is that the rotor and pads? i doubt the have been changed anything lately.

well if you know anything about a braking system you know the pads mate with the rotor to create friction to stop the wheel.. grinding is most likely the pads being worn to nothing that are now digging into the rotor.. so.. yes a safe bet would be to budget for rotor and pads.

4. The front left wheel wobbles when driven? any ideas?
take the tire off and wobble the hub around.. whatever wobbles.. replace it..

5. The cap for the front break fluid screw is beyond stripped it is completely rounded out. is there a way to get the screw out without buying a new break system?

yes, there are screw extractors .. get them at the hardware store come in different sizes.. also known as " easy out".. pick up a set they are great to have handy.

6. When idling, (sometimes) the engine will act like it stopped getting fuel for a split second and act like its gonna stop running but idles back up by itself?

not sure i would check the charging system and make sure the battery is in good shape, clean out the carb while your digging into stuff too..

7. I always have to choke it to start it on a cold start. Never when its warm. Is that a problem?

thats why they make a choke..

hope this helps!

your my hero thanks a lot man. oh one other thing, when the guy said he will have to get a piston that is .50 over does that mean the quad is bigger than 350cc? if so what cc would it be around?

to answer the question, yes, it means its a bit bigger than 350cc now, but as missouritrailrider said, thee isnt any .50 over pistons that I've come across either in all my searching and such.

look around and see how much a .40 over piston changes the displacement n all that... a .50 over would be just slightly more than the .40 (Or maybe Im thinking of the 440 kit n stuff...)

sorry, im pretty new to these machines as well and still learning.

as for the stripped screw, try some good hard biting vice-grips or locking adjustable pliers.. depending on how tight it is... I cant see it being to tight, as nothing is on these machines... just be carefull not to make it worse.

if theres enough of the head left, take a zip disk and slot it, use a large flatblade that fits tight. but again, be carefull.

as for your wobbly wheel, sounds like wheel bearing, but check your ball joints as well.. actualy, just check out the whole front end lol

for the lifter tickity, if the engine was rebuilt recently, the valves should be checked/set fairly often till you're satisfied they arent changing and staying put etc. and then still check em regularily anyhow.

Brakes: indeed, pads n rotor.

just look at teh pads and see how much if any material is left on the metal backing of the pads... sounds like you arent gonna find any...

if one side is substantialy thinner than the other, or one side burnt off and the other side not too bad, then check the caliper/piston for siezing as well..

if one end of a pad is worn more than the other end of the same pad, then check to make sure the caliper isnt loose or bins/bushings arent worn out. (would cause caliper to twist a bit and wear the pads uneven)

if theres a fuel filter on these things, check or replace it.. could be the idle issue, but probably not.. I dunno much about these carbs and such at all.. yet... lol

anyways, enjoy!!!

Could be a .50 mm over piston which would be .020 inch over and that is an option.

but you have to remember that the warrior is not a 350 its actually a 348. and that makes a big difference when you only talking about boring it .020 over.

yeah i would say it is .5mm over... ive seen people think that means .050" which is what "50 over" is...

nah it would be bigger... but not very much... its not like you can go bragging to your friends that your warrior is actually a 355 and therefore it has 5 more horsepower... (dont do that youll only look like a doush) the fact that it overbored is not a good thing in my opinion.. that only really means it has been blown up before... i remember when i was younger and someone had a "bored out" dirtbike we always thought that meant it was awesome and it was better than stock... not really the case... i mean i guess in theroy it would make more power and be faster but not any amount your going to notice

yea i dunno he peiced the engine together with 2 differnet motors and thats what size was in the engine so who knows what happened to it

If you don't know exactly what is in there, then to me, you still have a stock bike.

haha yea, i dunno like i said i dont know much of the mechanical stuff. I have been riding a quad for years though. Just now getting into more. I just gotta figure out whats up with the front wheel wobble and then im gonna take it in the woods. Unless you guys think it will be fine

Well how bad are the bearing on the wheel that wobbles? Also, you ever put any slime or fix a flat in it? Wobble in the woods is not an issue, you won't even notice it.

i dunno im gonna take the wheel off tomorrow and inspect it all. The quad was bought from someone that beat the piss outtta it. I got it home and there it was bone dry of oil. so yea. I wanna take it out in the woods but i dont wanna have my wheel fly off or something crazy. hahahaha. it steers fine though so i dunno i will update you tomorrow around 3 PM EST

Update on the wobbling wheel. the rim was bent! anyway do you think i should replace the wheel bearings and seals soon or should they be fine? Nothing is loose or anything

ALSO

IS there a way to make my shifter click. example whenever you shift up or down on my brothers newer raptor you can feel a click on your foot with my warrior its just a smooth motion no clicks or anything. is there a way to fix this?

ONE MORE THING

One of the bolts that hold the wheel on the nut will just keep spinning i think the threads are stripped is there a way to replace one of those or do i have to buy a new knuckle or whatever its called.

You can put a small tack wield on the bolt on the back of the HUB (that's what it is called). Replacing bearings is always a good thing to do if you can afford to do it, especially if you don't know how old they are.

I have a whole set f stock aluminum rims for sale if your looking to buy??

i straightend it out as much as i could. are ur rims ur selling gold? i would like the fronts to match the backs
