this is going to be long winded but anyone who has read anything ive posted knows i have a hard time quitting... here goes...

so yesterday while im at work a friend texts me and wants to go riding... i tell him and is gf to get some people together since it was their idea... they say they will and that they have a couple other takers lined up.... so i tell them i will need to go to my uncles and trailer my fourwheeler to my house because i dont feel like riding roads for 5 miles to meet them... i tell them that i will call them when im back in town and ready to go... i get outta work a little late so already im behind the 8-ball (about 5:20)

so i haul ass home and then to my uncles with my dads truck and trailer... the trailer is bouncing all over the place on the back road so i slow down... even tho it is hard to 'cause for once im going to get to ride the whole ride instead of having to catch up to everyone someplace after i get off work at my stupid pizza delivery job on the weekends....

i get to my uncles and forget my chain is dry as a bone, and i gotta do a couple other little things before im ready to go..... i get those done.... im starving by now (its about 6:30 and i said i would meet them around 7)... i load that bitch up and head for home....

on the way, i call the ride organizers and the say the are sitting on the road in front of my house... "PERFECT ill be there in 30 seconds" I say.... i roll up to see one single fourwheeler talking to another friend on his streetbike... grrrrrreat this is going to be just me, my buddy, and his dumb gf..... anyways i unload the purple bastard ('94) and we decide to ride up to a friend named bobs garage and recruit him... we actually suceed in getting him to go but he has to go home eat before he rides so we say we are going ride to the bar and eat there while we wait on him... lets not forget im starvin like marvin.... we go out and jump on the fourwheelers... the polaris they are riding with starts and then stalls... i think i needed a little choke the first time... so i laugh at him and call it a POS.... (yep shouldnt have done that, and i knew better)....he hits the button again and it fire right up... i hit the button on the purple bastard... and it just cranks... WTF!?!?! i knew i shouldnt have opened my mouth!! a couple of times i got a gun shot backfire out of the exhaust... grrrrreat i know what that means..... improper timing... i put my hands over the exhaust and it doesnt seem to be sucking back in.... hmm the valves are in time, must be spark timing..... my first guess is the rickys cdi bit the dust after 15 hours.... but bob being the mechanical genius that he is, points out that the flywheel key could have sheared.... i agree and its off to my uncles in bobs truck to get parts... i grab the bottom end that im trying to sell and the 2 cdis that i have bought..... we go over to the neighboors cycle shop and grab his flywheel puller.... of course he has no oil on his shelf for sale, so im still not sure what im going to do if i have to pull the flywheel....

anyways bob drops me off at his garage and goes across the road, to his house, to eat..... boy i wish i could do that!!! (about 8:15 or so).... i start tearing into **** like a possessed pitbull on coke.... first i try the oem cdi that i bought (off of here i think... might have been bluetraxx) NO spark at all... dammit..... so then i try the ricks again... got spark back but still no go.... so then i put on the original oem cdi, got spark probably even better looking than the ricks but still not go.... so i swear for a few minutes and smoke a cigarette....

this can only mean one thing, flywheel key.... i pull the cam cover, after fighting like hell with the ignorantly tight bolts... i bring it up to TDC and sure enough the cam mark is 90 degrees off.... just to make sure i take it the whole way around and again it is still 90 off.... still dont know what i am going to do with the oil situation, so i tear into the parts motor... yank that flywheel off and sure enough...... the key is good hahaha... i actually expected it to be junk because that is just my luck.... anyways by the time i get the key out bob is back... SWEET... probably about 9pm by this point... now he can find me something clean to catch the oil in... well in the process of looking at the parts motor... i realized, DUH! all we have to do is lay it on its side and make sure we dont drop ANYTHING... so thats what we do.... i pull the flywheel and sure enough the key is sheared.... good, i dont like tearing into gaskets and realizing thats not the problem!.... we sand the tapers a little bit to get the slight burrs smoothed up and slam the bitch back together with air..... i get it all back together and crank it for about 20 secs (just long enought to think i have another issue and get scared) and it fires up but it doesnt wanna rev up... then i realize its smoking like a cheech and chong.... "oh yeah ill bet oil got on top of the piston some how when it was rolled on its side" i say... after about 30 secs it revs up and idles, so we push it out side and let it sit to clear itself up while we clean up tools.... come out a couple minutes later and it is all cleared up... YAY!... so we take off for the bar so i can eat finially... after about 1/2 mile i go ripping thru a field and realize it doesnt wanna rev out completely, and its cutting out... im thinking this is due to an oil fouled plug... and i keep going...

anyways i eat finially at about 11... im not sure where all the time went really... but the purple machine is going again so i guess i should be happy... we piss around at the bar till about 11:30 and then take off again... we ride just one trail to take the original organizers home and then we turn around and go straight home on the backroads.... and oh btw it was pretty damn cold lastnight at 1am when i got home... are you still reading? wow you must be as bored as i am at work right now!!! hahahaha

my question? is not reving out a symptom of an oil fouled plug? i know it is on my sled.... im just hoping like hell i didnt bent a valve.... the issue seemed to get better the more i rode... but it didnt have it at WOT much after that.... it revs out good and smoothly except for the last (im guessing) 200 rpms... then it starts sputtering.. and it didnt do that before...

HAH....good read man and quite the adventure!. Easy way to tell is pull the plug and see what it looks like. Then go from there!

yeah... i suppose i could just do that.... but i cant when im sitting at work ahahaha.... i just hope to god i didnt bend a valve.... i dont need that.... it probably wouldnt act like that with a bent valve anyways... and it would be hard starting..... that was just a day in the life of me really... i wouldnt expect anyless....

looking back i did have a hard time torquing that flywheel on and it must not have been tight enough so i guess it was my fault.... but lets not tell my friends that....

the yamaha manual says if you have the timing 180 off that valve damage will occur... is that actually true?? (im sure it probably is, but i know alot of times stuff like that is just carried over from a previous models service manual)

yea kind of just sounds like a fouled plug. thats why mine would usually do when it fouls a plug. good read by the way lol
