My buddy calls me and says.. dude i got bad news..

rewind: we went riding over his friends house and played a little paintball.. i took my bike home he left his at the house for the night..

the dude was trailoring it back to my buddies house and gets pulled for a tail light out.. the LEO wants registration for all the bikes.. naturally he didnt have it for my friends so they ran the VIN on my buddies bike and it came back STOLEN!

well this dude calls my buddy and my buddy goes to the police station and says I bought the bike, the bike is not stolen, here is the number of the guy i bought it off of..

well turns out the people who deemed it stolen already picked it up, and my buddy is looking at receiving stolen prop charges because the dude he bought it off of wont call the police and own up to it..

the LEO asked if he has his bill of sale or reciept.. my buddy said he remembers throwing it out sometime last year... BOOOOO

so keep the title/BOS, or whatever documentation you have.. if the quad ends up stolen then at least your name is cleared.

Thats why you don't buy anything without a clean title. That way you know it is legit, or at least have something to show that you thought it was legitimate if the title turns out bogus/counterfeit.
Bummer for your buddy ( hope he doesn't get any time/house arrest), but I am glad the warrior was returned too the rightful owner.

I guess this falls under "Buyer Beware".

well if the bike was paid off by insurance then they have to give it to the insurance company unless they give the settlement back to the insurance company.. either way my buddy lost his bike..

BUT the dude he bought it off of is talking and cooperating with the PD so at least HE is off the hook.

..exactly buyer beware!

Glad the dirt bag is fessing up and your buddy is off the hook. I believe I would go and take the cost of my bike out of the guys hide that sold me a stolen bike.
I doubt the first party had theft insurance though, unless it is a state requirement.

UPDATE:

my buddy sends me a picture last night... or a 03 rappy 660 limited.. what a dickhead this one has a title thou haha

your buddy should go to that dudes house and dump a bag of brake rotor shavings on his car then throw a hand full of porcelin chips and his windows..
