just did a top end on a friends 2000 warrior. put in a hot cams stage 1 cam and adjusted the valves as close as i could with the feelers i had. it was really tight on the .152 for the exhaust valve, .15mm is spec. the intake is supposed to be .13 which i couldn't get any closer than .127 with the feelers. so i made it just touch it without much drag, but enough to wipe the oil of the feeler. started it up and it ticks bad!!!! it ticked a little before, but this is loud. i know with an aftermarket cam it will be louder, but this is scary. the valve seats and valves were just recut while it was apart too. question is, how much louder will it be? if there are some before and after videos that would help. but either way it is getting checked again tomorrow to make sure the lash is right. oh and is there a difference between the intake and exhaust rockers? one had 41 the other 42 but i didn't tear it apart and didn't know which one was which, but they looked identical.

but thanks anyway for answering the question that has probably been asked 14 times last year. i did try to search it out before i registered and asked if that makes it any better.

I have the same cam and I use a metric feeler gadge at .05 intake and .06 exhaust and yo don't tighten it till "it wipes the oil off" the fealer you tighten it till you can bearly move the fealer then try it it will be a bit louder then stock ad make sure and ride it SOFTLY the first 30 min then you can whoop on it and you will have to reset the lalves at a hour and a half cuz of the seating process they will be really tight

Another thought make sure the cam isnot putting preaser on the valve befor adjusting and yes its ok to roll the motor over with the valve cover off I always take the spark plug boot off first

on the spec sheet that cam with the cam it says to set the lash to .15mm exhaust, .13mm intake. the reason for the just whiping the intake was because of the .003mm difference in the feeler. but where did you get the .03 spec at? are you talking inches? the exhaust valve was set so it was tight but not so tight that it couldn't move.

sorry .05. but i was using the metric spec on the feeler, not inch spec. so basically your saying to go way tighter than the hot cams spec?

Well I think part of it might be that I'm running a 06 rappy motor and ur running a warrior motor o.0

Was the cam rocker arm putting presher on the valve? Because if it was then the valve would be set wrong if the cam ain't in the right part of its rotation

the head wasn't even on the motor and the timing mark was in line with the mark on the head. but yeah the difference in motors probably does make a difference since the head is a little different.

but tomorrow it is getting rechecked to make sure its in the specs it calls for and to check and make sure the timing chain isn't wore too much.

The best way to check thb timming chain to see if its warn is to take the 2 bolts holding the tensioner to the jug and take those out and let the tensioner arm extend all the way then re insert the tensioner into the hole it the jug and measure the added distance in th tensioner if its less then a quarter inch its going to need a timingv chain soon if not then take the 12mm bolt out of the end of the tenioner and becareful there is a spring inside and remove the spring then colaps the tensioner arm re insert it into the jug then reinstall the spring and you are good to go

it needs measured. the one that was in his motor was out pretty far. but the 12mm was STUCK!! so took the one out of the donor and installed it. the cam gear did move just a hair, but he was anxious to hear it run. i think we all know that feeling. i know i have been waiting to damn long myself since i installed my piston and went to put my hc2 in my 700 and the damn decompression pin was bent. :argh:

but thanks for the ideas. i think i already know whats up, but convincing him that it will be a little louder is the problem. he thinks it should sound like it did. which it won't. if ya don't like how its done take it somewhere and pay someone to tell you that this is broken and this needs replaced and this needs replaced and a hotcam is just a stock cam made by someone else.

oops sorry bout the rant. but any other advice would be helpful just in case.
