That is in bad shape. Atv frames are made of thin wall tubing to begin with, and that looks really thin and really week. Once you get that cleaned and ground down to good weldable metal, it is only going to be thinner and the crack larger. You may want to have a welder with some milage under their belt look at it. It'll take mig or tig welding, and using a mig on a lower setting and making several passes, and hopefully turning it up some as you get more material on it. Cutting out a piece of steel to fit in the hole and welding it in will work, too. Just my .02

ok ill answer both at same time, no idea how it happened, didnt know it was there till i flipped it, look at second set of pics and youll see where it is, rite at rear a-arm bracket, genpat, i have a mig, my thoughts were to beat it together as it is egg shaped, re- round as best as possiple, vee it out and start filling, possibly adding a rap??? IM WIDE OPEN FOR OPINIONS..........

I'd heat it up slightly and use a pair of large channel locks and squeeze it together then weld it. Maybe get a piece of pipe, cut it in half, and weld it over the crack for support. Done that many times.

yes genpat thats exactly what i meant when i said wrap it (with a thin wall pipe), I have a weld pac 100 with .035 wire anyone wanna tell me what settings i should be on? i just got this and unfamiar with them, its a 95 machine and only has 4 settings i think

I was wondering what you ment when you said "rap" it. Couldn't tell what settings to run because all welders are different. You will want to use lower settings. Get some thin wall tube and practice. Get the settings down and get the feel for it and go from there.

oops bad spelling:loco:, yea im gonna call lincoln in AM, they are extremely helpful there, hell guy was on phone for like 2 hrs when i had a prob..... then practice-practice

hey guys what me n the general talked about sounds good but by no means set in stone!!! Im WIDE OPEN for ideas/suggestions, actually GEN scared the hell outta me with his 1st post:cry:

:haha: yea buddy, but no ****, i was like thinkin exactly what i said n you came out n said that, i was ohhhhhhhhhh ****!!!!! ill have the prettiest parts goin on a part out!!! all blasted n painted!!! i could modify colors 4 people n everything:argh: lmao

That tear just looks bad but I don't think it is compromising strength. Considering the way the a-arm mount is welded between the tubes on both sides of the rip, it shouldn't hurt strength at all. I'd be careful and weld in short bursts and let it cool often. Too much heat there could shrink things and tweak it.

positive people :iagree: so i take it you feel my plan is a good 1??? no addition besides welding technique, which i ty for, did have that in mind thou
