Hey when you clean your quads after a mess like that, do you need to be careful at all about protecting certain parts or can you soak the whole thing?

If your using a pressure washer its probably a good idea to watch where you spray. I don't like using pressure washers myself.

Cause I know when I clean my engine on my car I have to cover the distributor...just wondered about quad parts.

The ONLY thing I cover up is the tip of my exhaust so I don't spray water in it. Other then that its all wet. Its made to be wet so no worries there, unlike the engine of a automobile.

EDIT:
Oops I forgot to mention I have a k&N Filter with adapter so I dop screw the air box back down.

If you're using a pressure washer then avoid spraying it directly at any gaskets, seals, bushings, or bearings and you'll be fine.

i just dont know how you guys get those things soo muddy and then the next day have not one speck of dirt on the whole thing...i dont know what to use other than simple green, soap water and some assortment of brushes/sponges

Your thinking way to hard about it. All I use is simple green. soap, wash glove water. I dry it with a towel and also I use my air hose to spray water sitting on the engine and other places on the rear of the quad (Sitting water is bad). Afterwards I apply plastic polish to all the plastics and the tires and seat also. Thats about it. Takes anywhere from 2-3 hours to do....
