would the valve springs be the reason that my quad bogs at high rpms? we thought it was the carb so we put a new one on it and it still does it. the guy at the local yamaha dealership said that he talked to yamaha and they said it sounds like the valve springs, any input?

i think it could be various things...i know it could be your stator and ign. coil also...but if its fine everywhere else except high rpms id say its possible...id pull the head off and take a look...then if in doubt buy some kibblewhites...lol

does your aftermarket igniton have a rev limiter?
What main jet are you runing in your carb? This can cause a bog. How high are the rpms when the engine bogs?
The only time I've floated the valves on my warrior was when I was reving to about 11,000.

well i took off the head and cleaned the valves and junk they had some buildup on them, i dont think its been taken apart in 12 years, literally so once i get everything back togather im hoping its fine. my springs were of normal length. barley shorter than is even worth noting.

I doubt it. Usually a cdi either works or it doesn't work. I've never seen one work, but not properly. When something goes wrong with them they usually go up in a cloud of smoke.
