Wait, wait, wait! Michiganrider? As in Mike? And now you've got a Warrior? lol That's cool! So you gonna come back and race next year? ;)
No sorry, my name is Art. I guess there are a lot of riders in Michigan!

Too funny. There was a guy on michigandirtslingers.com who used to go by michiganrider and raced XC with us. Then I checked your profile and saw you were 37, and I think he's in his mid to late 20's. You're closer to my age!

I got a hold of a few used parts (including a carb) from a local guy. I tried the carb and it started right up! Still smoked real bad. Like it did before the rebuild. I think the exhaust is full of oil from the before. I hope that's all it is. I never touched the head. The old piston had real bad scrapes on the piston into the oil ring lands.
Tomorrow I'll put the rest together and try breaking it in correctly. Keeping my fingers crossed that the smoking clears up. Thanks for the help.

Well I got it all together and drove it today! It ran good on and off, seems like a carb problem again. Idles fine but stumbles a lot. Seems to like the choke on. I'm going to rebuild the original carb, not going to take any chances. But on to the smoking....Now it doesn't smoke until its been driven a little and starts to warm up. After that, it seemed to keep puffing oil and maybe consuming some? Does this sound like valve seals? Would it take that long for the leftover oil to burn out of the exhaust? Doesn't sound right to me.......

my brothers 95 warrior seemed to do that, as it warmed up, it just seemed to smoke worse. sometimes it wouldnt smoke at all when you would start it up cold, but when it got warm it got worse. but we havent taken it apart yet to figure out why the heck it did that.

i would say it isnt the valvle seals... they usually tigheting back up once the valves get hot.... also i think they leak so very little that the smoke you see (from them) on initial start up is from it seaping past the seals as it sits for a day or so and sitting on the piston/ valve head....

im not sure what would cause it to smoke after it gets warm unforutuanly....
maybe, and this is just a guess at best, stud that the oil runs with going to the head is leaking into the cyclinder??

smoking after it's warmed up is normally a sign of a bad oil ring. pull the head off abd roll the fly wheel so the piston is at the bottom. get NEW 10w 40 oil and get some on your fingers rub the oil on the cylinder walls and turn the fly wheel 5-6 turnsa and rub another good coat of oil on the walls and turn the fly wheel 10-15 times and put your head back on and crank it up. if the engine doesn't stop smoking after 15-10 min i would bet you got a bad oil ring.

Those are some really good points. The old motor smoked very badly. The exhaust was full of oil. I had it powdercoated (baked at 350-400 degrees) But I still think the baffle has a lot of oil in it. Maybe it takes time for the exhaust to heat up and burn out the old oil? I'm rebuilding the carb now, so time will tell....
