Alright so I will give the run down. I have had a 97 Wolverine for about 4 years now and finally traded it off straight across for a 02 Warrior..... It needs some work.

At the moment it has an oil leak behind front sprocket and I have figured out that it is the countershaft seal and it goes out on alot of them.

Second problem. It has no muffler. It what looks like the factory header and then a pipe of equal size just welded on, which you can imagine makes this annoyingly loud.

Last, when driving on pavement or dirt at any speed the handling seems incredibly touchy and like if I make one wrong flinch its gonna be a nasty wreck. How can I make this thing less touchy at higher speeds and just riding.

I would like to make this a project but I'm not planning on any big bore kits or anything too extensive, or expensive! First purchase is going to be countershaft oil seal kit, oil change and front sprocket. Next is going to have to be muffler and header.

Im a college kid with a part time job a Wally world so you can imagine how low on money I am. I WANT A RELIABLE ENGINE. That is what I want more than anything. Help me achieve that. I can spend about 200 every 2 weeks so if anyone can steer me in the right direction on what purchases to make for a reliable fast engine it would be greatly appreciated.

Well I can help you with the exhaust. You can have my stock exhaust you pay for shippng. As for the touchy steering remember your not on a 4 wheel drive no more and check your tire pressure it may be to high. And welcome aboard..

Well as for the tires, when I got it home the tires where all different pressures and I can tell its been this way for a while because one front tire looks brand new and the other has almost no tread in the middle. It had like 13 pounds when I checked it so I lowered that and evened out the back ones too.

As for the exhaust I'm going to go aftermarket, cant decide which one. Im going to go with a new header to. More than like the powerbomb. Do you know if it come with a heat shield for the airbox? The "makeshift" header that is on there doesn't have one and its burnt a hole in the air box.... which I guess ill also have to replace. Any recommendations there?

Welcome!! 200 every two weeks can help a lot, I noticed you said you wanted to make it a bit quicker without any internal mods, So to start a good Filter and intake will help along with rejetting. On the airbox deal UM used to make aluminum boxes but no longer do they often pop up on ebay. Ebay is my go to place for all my parts I hardly ever pay retail.

No heat shield on any aftermarket exhaust. Like beast said get a cfm aluminum air box on ebay 90.00 and do filter jets and exhaust.

Check out your front end for play in the steering/suspension. Balljoints are NOT replacacle. If they are bad, get a set of plus 2 or 3 Fullflight arms. Best bang for your buck. Also check and greese the a arm bushings.

It's not so much as play in the front end but more like its "too touchy". Like if I were to hit a small bump just right it could go bad really fast. Would widening the arms make a difference as far as that goes? And yes I already have the fast flight website in my favorites.

The quad has been through at least 3 owners already and I know one of them modded it to some extent. It already has a k&n air filter along with airbox holes, gasket kit, it looks like they rattle canned alot of stuff on it so I know one of the owners modded to some extent. I just don't know what it has yet. I might just get a whole new carb if I can find a good deal. Any recommendations? I've heard of the edelbrock and fcr so far. Ive never rode a bone stock warrior so I have no way to compare if this quad feels more powerful due to mods.

And of course the filter, jetting, and exhaust are a must on every quad for easy power but I was planning on going a little further than that. Maybe take apart the crankcase once and do an replace what I can afford. Gaskets, valves, springs, clutch, cams. Im dreaming now haha.

But anyways thank you guys for the warm welcome and the courtesy and friendliness is much appreciated.

Connor,

i have just taken apart my case on my BB. its not that hard and your engine may benefit from a good take down and clean. i wouldnt be to worried about things being bust inside unless you have some serious runnig issues, but then you need to decide if its actually worth your time to take it down. the oil leak on your sproket is probably a leaky seal, from experience these cost very little and are usually standard parts-you can go to a normal autoparts store and get replacement. you can just pack it with heavy grease to reduce the flow if its bad and wait to do anything big on it till winter or whatever.

unless you ride in water, guess not seen as airbox has holes in it, get rid of the box and get a Green/uni/k&n universal, have a hunt on ebay as there are some serious deals, i just got a green 55mm for £11! you can get 90 and 180 elbows to move the filter into a colder and more direct flow which is gonna give you a really easy power change. then just spend some time palying with your carb to get the best tune.

good luck
