I bought the quad running but it was beat to hell, i rebuilt the entire thing and just recently did the top end b/c it was orig from 87 and worn out. Well I put a new carb on it also b/c the orig was shot. After I was done with the rebuild the thing doesnt have anymore power than before. I can barely do a wheelie standing on the grab bar. My head needs a rebuild and my air box is messed up but it has to have more power than it does. Any ideas?? Also the carb has the correct jets in it also. It just bogs itself out and it just seems gutless.
 
do you have any mods? what is your jetting? whats your gearing? and anything else that tells us more about it. then we'll have a place to start from
 
No perormance mods just 20 razr2's on the back tires. Stock carb jets in the carb and stock exhaust. Basically everything is stock.
 
was the mixture screw on the carb adjusted when you put the new carb on. also you siad the airbox is messed up what do you mean and you said the head need rebiuld how bad is that. sorry for all the questions im just trying to get an idea of the quad to narrow down possibility's.
 
Well The cyl head valve seals leak so it smokes on startup and the airbox is all melted and the filter doesnt quite sit correctly in it so it sucking extra air. I was thinking this might be the prob but i was not sure. I am in the process of getting a new head and air box at the moment hoping that it will fix the prob. Also the head i have has the decomp lever and it doesnt do a damn thing im thinking that its stuck open or something.
 
both those could be a big issue. have you looked at the sparkplug at all it could be running a little lean with the airbox getting the extra air in. if the lever is stuck in a slightly open possition at all it would leak some of the compression off which would lead to a power loss. replacing that stuff would be a good start. when you get that stuff replaced let us know, but ill bet getting that stuff replaced will atleast fix most of it.

Well I installed the new head and airbox and wow what a difference! I Can wheelie now lol. Not as much power as my rappy 700 but a hell of alot more than what it had. Im going to tinker with the airbox a little more to see if i can get the air filter to fit better.

glad to here, tinkering is how you get a good running quad. to wake it up a little more you can get a pipe and jet as necessary. it would help your compliment your bored job and take the rebuild to a fuller potential.
 
What pipe is reccomended? I would like something thats not too loud lol. I used to have a white bros on it but it didnt have the end cap so it sounded like a harley lol.
 
is it a white brothers e series? if so id look into tracking down the stuff for the back of it, from what i hear on here those are the best. a real popular one that comes recommended is an hmf, you can get the can part in colors to kinda go along with your paint.
 
Can somebody take a pic of their headpipe for me? Where it bolts to the head and the muffler would be great, mostly because this is the second headpipe i bought and they both are short. They only go into the muffler about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I checked to makesure there is only 1 exhaust gasket in the head also.
 
Somebody else on here was having the same problem a while back too. I think the third header they bough fit. I actually moves my rear bracket closer up the frame, I never though the two came close enough together to began with.
 
yeah i have that same problem with the header, i ended up moving the rear exhasut forward by drilling new holes farther back on the pipe, but its still 1/2 in too short, so my dads gonna braze a piece of pipe onto the end to make it longer...
 
Now Im pissed. i go outside today to ride the warrior a little bit and i start it up and it smokes like hell for a good 20 seconds and then slows down and then when i nail the throttle and let go and then jab it again it blows out white smoke! Is it rings or valve seals? I just had a bore and fresh piston put in last year but the cyl walls looked a little scratched and so did the piston when i had it apart yesterday. At this point Im just ready to freak out lol. All I have is bad luck with this thing!!
