Got a clutch cover modded already for an oil cooler, but dont have the fittings for lines yet as Ive got an idea. Just wonder if its been tried at all. Im thinking hard lines up to the cooler, so I dont have to worry about puncturing a line. Also any input on the idea would be great.

ya I wanna get some steel line and fittings to attach them. then bent them to clear everything. I think it might help disipate the heat a little better. also anyplace it could rub put a small section of rubber hose cut on one side to help protect it. The line im thinking, I can actually get for about the same price as rubber line.

talk to dean. he bought the steel braided line from summit i believe. looks killer too.

Im thinking actual steel line, along the lines of brake lines for an example. Partially so I can paint it what ever color I want.

If / when I do mine, I plan on using hard line off of the engine and at very least 4" of hose at the cooler end for a vibration taker-upper. No way I'd run all hard tubing on a thumper engine, too crack prone over time.

Pre-fitted, bendable hard brake line is available at auto parts stores in standard and metric sizes. May make for a clean custom job without needing a flaring tool.

What's the ID of the oil galley in the clutch cover, maybe 1/8" or 3/16? (I'm guessing). Any same or larger ID cooler line would be just fine.

Moto your thinking the exact same thing I am. On the ID Im not exactly sure but it looked like some where around 3/16 to a 1/4. going from the npt fitting I can use a compression fitting( which I have really good luck with) or a flare as I have a flare tool.

when considering the size of the line is there any need for concern about the effevt it may have on the oil pressure?

also has anyone ever looked into usung a power steering cooler from a truck for the actual cooler part of the project?

Check out Gasmans in the Elite, Gone but not frogotten, he had hard lines.

Thanks for pointing that out. As many times as I looked at his pics I never saw that, so that tells me the idea isnt off the wall. I wonder why he had rubber run to metal. I was thinking the opposite way, metal from the cover to right before the cooler.

98 im liking your idea on the hard lines. It would be near bullet proof. Remember Gasmans warrior had the steel hard lines. I'm runnin stainless lines like Dead/Dean has from summit. I believe the brand is Spectra.

I would have rubber at each end as moto pointed out. All the vibration will have a big effect over time and they may crack somewhere.

Aww man, I just noticed something while working on mine today. As many times as i've looked at it, the supply hole on the cover coming from the pump is only 2mm, or approx. 3/32"!

Heck, any size line will suffice. Volume through that little hole has to be minimal compared to the Big Bear adapter.

Has anybody actually ever put a temp gauge on a cooler inlet/outlet to get a documented temp change? Just wondering.

Ive never seen anyone with a gauge but it sure would be cool to see what the temps are while riding in diff. senarios.

Yupp, 91 ran a temp gauge. It lit up and everything. I got the oppt. to ride that beast when it was alive and that lite in the darkness of the night caught my attention more then once. Hahahah

Have to have rubber outta the cover, the vibe would mess with the lines.
